Abstract:ÌýWhen a mysterious cache of sixteenth-century Netherlandish engravings was found in the Arctic circle in 1870, many questions arose. What do such objects, for example, tell us about narratives of Renaissance globalization? About "cultural exchange" conceptualized not in terms of movement and difference, but of stasis, mundanity, and sameness?
