Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Schulich School of Music Teaching Awards!
As many of our students prepare to graduate, let’s take a moment to appreciate the faculty members and student instructors who helped guide them towards this momentous achievement.
The Schulich School of Music is proud to have some of the best music scholars in North America among its educators. And, without a doubt, they all have immeasurably enriched the lives of our students through their passion, knowledge, and musicianship.
This year, as in past years, we are honored to recognize three individuals who demonstrated excellence, commitment, and innovation in teaching. Please join us in celebrating the following recipients of the Schulich School of Music Teaching Awards:

Graduate Teaching Assistant: Jade Roth
Jade is a Ph.D. candidate in music theory at ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù. She received her B.Mus. from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2013 and her M.A. in music theory from Western University in 2019. She conducts interdisciplinary research on the roles of timbre and orchestration in music perception through the Music Perception and Cognition Lab. Her dissertation research focuses on the analysis of the orchestral works of French composer Germaine Tailleferre (1892–1983).
Jade is an active member of the Analysis Creation and Teaching of Orchestration (ACTOR) project, where she is working on initiatives to develop music-analytical tools and pedagogical techniques in the field of orchestration research. In 2022, she was awarded an ACTOR student exchange award to conduct archival research at the Bibliothèque nationale de Paris on Tailleferre’s compositional training. Her research is co-advised by Professors Robert Hasegawa and Stephen McAdams.
As an educator, Jade aims to help students be more critical of their assumptions about music and be more aware of their expectations in music listening.
Congratulations to all the awardees and thank you for your contributions this year!
