Alumni Association of Vancouver presents "²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù on the Move: Lecture with Michael Jemtrud "
The ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù Alumni Association of Vancouver extends a cordial
invitation to graduates, family and friends to attend a ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù on
the Move lecture and reception with Michael Jemtrud, Director,
²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù School of Architecture.
"New Trajectories in Research, Pedagogy and Practice at the ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù
School of Architecture"
Recent advancements in digital media and fabrication
technologies are transforming how architecture is taught and
practised. Many complex structures, once thought to be confined to
the computer screen, are now appearing on city streets around the
world. As a result, the architects of tomorrow must have the tools
to think in both conceptual and concrete terms. Professor Jemtrud's
work, which ranges from the creation of high-fidelity, immersive
and interactive 3D models to digitally mediated collaborative
environments, reflects the field's rapidly evolving nature. Please
join the Director of ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù's School of Architecture for an inside
look at the cutting-edge research that is changing how our
communities are constructed.
Michael Jemtrud, MArch’00, is an Associate Professor of
Architecture and Director of the School of Architecture at ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù.
He was the Founding Director of the Carleton Immersive Media Studio
at Carleton University, and is currently constructing a new
research unit at ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù called the Facility for Architectural
Research in Media and Mediation (FARMM). His research agenda
encompasses the investigation and development of new technologies
and expertise in 3-D and time-based new media, high-performance
visualization, and network-based work environments for remote
design practices. His work emphasizes projects that both drive
innovation and complement traditional research in architecture,
urban design, heritage preservation and related disciplines. In
addition to courses in new media, he teaches design studio, the
theory of representation, the philosophy of technology, and the
theories of artistry found in the work of 20th century avant-garde
and contemporary artists.
