In the last few years, several groups have prepared members of a new family of macromolecules, the synthetic two-dimensional polymers.聽 My research group has focused on 2D polymers based on antrip monomer (below). In this talk, I will outline strategies for the synthesis of 2D polymers and then discuss open question and opportunities including:
1) structural classification
2) defect tolerance
3) macromolecular shape
4) post-polymerization modification of 2DPs
5) transfer of macromolecular structural information
6) applications in separations and patterning
