Welcome to the Winter semester

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope that you were able to benefit from the time off and find ways to enjoy the holidays safely. Classes began last Thursday, and we all continue to learn from the experience of studying remotely as we move forward into Winter. With this in mind, Teaching and Learning Services has issued new guidelines forÌýÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýÌýregarding the remote delivery of courses and assessment of student success. I highly recommend you have a look at these guidelines to better understand what’s expected of you and your instructors during the coming term. In addition, a policy onÌýÌýwas approved at a special meeting of the Senate on December 15. I was particularly impressed by the close cooperation between student senators and the administration to achieve this, both in a short time frame and with strong support from the Senate.

In a previous Dean’s Corner, I highlighted the importance of communication and invited comments on all aspects of student life. I received some feedback that I feel proved helpful on both sides. This invitation remains open, so if you have an idea of how to make an improvement, or if you feel something is not working and others might have a solution, please let my office know by sending an email toÌýdeanofstudents [at] mcgill.ca. Starting this week, my office will also hold regular virtual drop-ins on Tuesdays from 3:00–5:00 p.m. There will be a Zoom link available on theÌý, or you can request the linkÌýdeanofstudents [at] mcgill.ca (by email).
