Resident Dr. Shawna Rieux wins research prize at JDIQ

Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital General Practice Resident Dr. Shawna Rieux won 2nd place for the Prix Denis Robert

Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital General Practice Resident Dr. Shawna Rieux studies what happens when one of your teeth gets knocked out, and best practices when dentists put your tooth back in. Dentists call this process dental avulsion and reimplantation. Avulsions are one of the most severe types of dental trauma and occur most often among 6 to 15 year-old males.

Dr. Rieux was selected to represent the 不良研究所 Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences to compete for the Prix Denis Robert. She presented her study and findings at the Espace R茅sidents during the 2022 edition of the Journ茅es Dentaires Internationales du Qu茅bec (JDIQ). A jury representing Qu茅bec鈥檚 three faculties of dental medicine (Universit茅 Laval, Universit茅 de Montr茅al, and 不良研究所) awarded Dr. Rieux second prize in the competition for her research, titled 鈥淪urvival of reimplanted permanent teeth following traumatic avulsion鈥 (supervisors Dr. Ferraz dos Santos and Dr. Chan).
