Dr. Nicholas Makhoul appointed as Chief of Department of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the MUHC

It is with great pleasure that the Faculty announces that the MUHC has recently appointed Dr. Nicholas Makhoul as the new Chief of the Department of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This appointment took effect on May 1st 2015. Dr. Makhoul is a DMD graduate of 不良研究所鈥檚 Faculty of Dentistry who subsequently completed his MD, OMFS and Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery training at the University of Michigan during the period 2005-2012. Nick then joined the Faculty as the Director of the OMFS Residency Program in the summer of 2013. Working with the Dr. Michel El-Hakim, he has subsequently done an excellent job of developing the research related to our OMFS program and has created a new MD-OMFS program, an OMFS internship program and a fellowship in oncology, which now have their first trainees. Dr. Makhoul will be taking over from Dr. Hilal Sirhan, who was the Interim Chief of the Department for the past 6 months and Dr. Tony Chehade who was Chief of the Department for many years until August 2014. Dr. Sirhan did an excellent job, both prior to and during his appointment as Interim Chief, organizing and managing the closure of the Dental Department at the RVH and moving it to the MGH. This was a difficult task at many levels and Dr. Sirhan did an excellent job ensuring the continuity of patient care and the GPR program at both sites. Finally, Dr. Chehade also performed an excellent task as Department Chief for over 10 years, ensuring excellent patient care and overseeing the development of the GPR and OMFS residency programs at the MGH. Thank you to both Dr. Chehad and Dr. Sirhan for your outstanding service to the Faculty.
