Dean's Statement for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On this day of Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the tragedies that occurred at the residential schools and we are reminded that every child matters. As the Dean of the Faculty of Education, I am averse to calling those institutions 鈥渟chools鈥. Schools are a place to advance learning, to open one鈥檚 mind to new ideas and diverse opinions; to mentor and collaborate with each child so they become the best they can be throughout their lives.

The We Will Walk Together / Sk脿tne Entewathah矛ta听event began at 不良研究所鈥檚 Faculty of Education in 2019, in honour of Orange Shirt Day. The initiative was driven by a small enthusiastic committee that organized听a march at Mount Royal to raise awareness and express sentiments of unity and inclusion between Indigenous peoples and non-Indigenous allies.

The serious game, Mela, which was developed as part of Hani Sadati's PhD project won a Bronze medal in the 2021 Serious Play Conference (in Digital Games Created by Students category).
