Hello to all our donors,
It has been my distinct pleasure to meet many of you during my first year as Dean. We hold two events every year – Homecoming in October and the Donor Student Awards night in the spring.
At this spring’s Donor Student Awards, I was struck by how many students who have received financial assistance are available to come out and thank their donors. We wanted to give you a taste of the event by including videos of the donor and student matches who attended this year.
it was uplifting to hear how your dollars have significantly improved many students’ educational journey. Not to mention that real-life experience helps our students stand out in the workplace.
I extend my personal thanks to you on behalf of the Faculty and look forward to meeting many more of you next year.
Viviane Yargeau,
Dean, Faculty of Engineering
Thanks to your generosity and your support of our students and our community, we were able to increase the expenditure of experiential learning opportunities awarded to students from $81,600 in 2022 to $150,000 in 2023.
While the Faculty of Engineering community is strong, some of the challenges of last year will soon begin to affect students directly. An example of this is the tuition increase for those attending ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù from outside the province.
Internships can help students gather experience working in their field while they support themselves during the summer. They also have the added benefit of growing ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù’s reputation for graduating students who are ready to meet the challenges of the marketplace.
Inside this year’s issue, learn how Your Impact has made a difference to students. Read stories of donors who have supported students, researchers and faculty in relevant fields such as sustainability, artificial intelligence and other nascent technologies. And how experiential learning and innovation and entrepreneurship play an important role for engineering students.
Our decision to move Your Impact, our annual report to donors, online aligns with our intentions to improve the sustainable practices of ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù and reduce our carbon footprint.
It also gives us the opportunity to invite you backstage to meet some of our donors and students on video. Enjoy.
