Dr. Hirsh Rosenfeld Distinguished Public Lecture in Family Medicine: "Too much pain, doctor!": recognizing and contextualizing cultural expressions of pain

Psychosocial suffering often manifests as bodily pain and can be overlooked in clinical practice when cultural expressions of distress are missed. Understanding how expert family physicians recognize and manage psychosocial distress can enhance the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health challenges. Findings suggest that the key to contextualizing these vague presentations lies in unraveling the patient鈥檚 narrative and finding shared humanity.
