Union Parentale - Un droit nouveau pour les conjoints de fait
Funded by the Notarial Studies Fund, the Center is pleased to organize a workshop that will address the new reform concerning parental unions.
More than 10 years after the epilogue of the聽脡ric v. Lola聽case, the Quebec legislature amended the Civil Code to offer common-law spouses who are parents of the same child a regime adapted to their situation. Lawyers, and notaries in particular, will be called upon to advise common-law spouses who have become parents. This will sometimes involve exempting them from the provisions of the law or modulating their application, and sometimes ensuring their implementation, for example to protect the family residence, to divide property following a breakup or to settle an estate.
Specialists from academia and practice will join forces to prepare for the entry into force of the new provisions on June 30.
