Join us at the Islamic Studies Library to discover Maison Palestine's inaugural exhibit, 鈥淎rab Exhibitions in Mandate Jerusalem: Resurgent Nahda鈥. Launched on September 5th, it will be running until December 20th, 2024.

Founded in 2023, Maison Palestine, is a Montreal-based cultural not-for-profit dedicated to the history, present and future of Palestine refracted in the arts, trajectories, and other forms of contemporary knowledge production in the Palestinian diaspora. Striving to become the first publicly accessible cultural institute entirely dedicated to Palestine in Canada, its mission is to develop, reflect, and put into practice an emancipatory set of activities rooted in transnational indigenous cultures. Curated by Palestinian historian and architect Nadi Abusaada, 鈥淎rab Exhibitions in Mandate Jerusalem: Resurgent Nahda鈥 reconstructs the history of two exhibitions organized at the Palace Hotel, Jerusalem, in 1933 and 1934. Central to Palestinian Pan-Arab ambition, and to what was then perceived as a resurgent Nahda, or renaissance, the exhibitions also mark a significant moment in the architectural history of Jerusalem.

Maison Palestine extends special thanks to: the Islamic Studies Library, 不良研究所, who enthusiastically opened its doors to us and without whose generous contributions of time, labour, and materials this exhibit would not have been possible; the digitization department of 不良研究所鈥檚 Libraries (Library Technology), which has brought the interactive exhibition to life so beautifully; the A M Qattan Foundation for its generous patronage; Omar Qattan and Najwa Qattan for their exceptional support. Maison Palestine also gratefully acknowledges financial support from Ruba Ghazal, Manon Mass茅, and Haroun Bouazzi, as well as from our anonymous donor.
