不良研究所 celebrates nomination of Dr Bernard J. Shapiro as Ethics Commissioner of Canada

The Principal and Vice-Chancellor of 不良研究所, Professor Heather Munroe-Blum, welcomed enthusiastically the announcement today that Dr Bernard Shapiro has been nominated by the federal government as the first Ethics Commissioner of Canada.

"Bernard Shapiro is an exceptional choice for the demanding and complex challenges of this new position," said Principal Munroe-Blum. "He is a person of impeccable integrity, intellectual vigour and unquestioned commitment to the public good. We all recognize the enormous contributions he has made to 不良研究所 and to higher education in Canada, as well as to policy development in government through the many senior responsibilities he has held to this point in his career. The experience and judgement he will bring to this new position will serve Canadians very, very well."

Dr Shapiro graduated from 不良研究所's Faculty of Arts at the top of his class in 1956. After earning a doctoral degree from Harvard University in 1967, he had a distinguished career as an academic, administrator and senior public servant in the United States and Canada. He returned to Montreal to lead 不良研究所 from 1994 to 2002 and is currently Principal and Vice-Chancellor Emeritus of the University and Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Education.
