Welcoming the new cohort of medical students at the MDCM and DMD Orientation

On August 22, 2023, the Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences and Dental Medicine and Oral Sciences welcomed 218 new medical students and 38 dental students for registration and a series of presentations at New Residence Hall, kicking off three days of orientation activities.听聽

It was a momentous day as students from the Class of 2027 attended orientation, which kicked off with an official welcome from Lesley Fellows, MDCM, DPhil, Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Elham Emami, D.D.S., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Sciences, and M茅lanie Mondou, MDCM, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education, and others.听聽

Presenting at the MDCM and DMD orientation for the first time, VP-Dean Fellows opened the day by welcoming the new cohort with words of encouragement for the Class of 2027: 鈥淭ake the time to enjoy and engage with it all,鈥 urged Dr. Fellows. 鈥湶涣佳芯克 is a world-leading university with an international reach鈥攖ake full advantage of what is on offer.鈥 She added: 鈥淟earning medicine is about your own growth as a human being, understanding your own strengths and limitations and discovering your passions.鈥澛犅

Day one also included talks by Dany猫le Lacombe, MD, Vice Dean and Director, Campus Outaouais, and the Medical Students Society (MSS) and Dental Students Society (DSS) presidents. Medical students also got the opportunity to learn about key Faculty supports services such as the聽Office for Respectful Environments, and the聽Office of Medical Learner Affairs.听

MDCM students from both the Montreal campus and Campus Outaouais were present, which offered an opportunity for the two cohorts to meet and mingle. The MDCM Class of 2027 is comprised of 190 students based on the Montreal Campus, and 28 students on Campus Outaouais. Students hail from 31 different countries, with three international students joining the program this year.听聽

Aiman Hadif, from Malaysia, is one of them. He explained the reasons behind his long-standing commitment to studying at 不良研究所: 鈥淚 did my Bachelor鈥檚 and my Master鈥檚 here in Speech Language Pathology. I chose to study medicine as I wanted to see the two aspects: from the living aspect in speech pathology and communication disorders, to looking at the survival side of life. In 2027, I will have been at 不良研究所 for 10 years!鈥澛
