Program Requirements
The objective of the Ph.D. in Kinesiology Sciences is to provide opportunities for in-depth research experience in (an) area(s) of Departmental expertise within the breath of kinesiology research. The program will provide graduate research training in kinesiology-related areas such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor control, physical and health education pedagogy, and sport, exercise and health psychology provided by a rich environment in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Students with a Master's degree in kinesiology or related discipline or equivalent background will qualify to apply. Students will complete 12 credits of required courses, including a capstone course intended to survey contemporary issues in kinesiology research, and two complementary courses intended to provide adequate theoretical depth to support their program of research.

EDKP 701 Ph.D. Comprehensive Examination
Overview
Kinesiology&Physical Education : The Ph.D. Candidate must demonstrate a general knowledge within their discipline of study, an understanding of the proposed field of research and the ability to present and defend material orally. The examination includes both 1) a written component as specified by the student's advisory committee and in agreement with the thesis supervisor and the student, and 2) an oral examination (3 hours) consisting of questions related to the written component and its relationship with the more general knowledge of the discipline. The oral examination will take place within two weeks following submission of the written component.

EDKP 630 Human Walking Mechanics (3 credits)
Overview
Kinesiology&Physical Education : Kinematics, kinetics, and neural control of walking and running under normal and perturbed conditions. Comparison of locomotion strategies for different populations (e.g., adolescents, elderly, amputees, etc.) will be emphasized. Various measurement techniques, data processing, and evaluations of total body and limb coordination will be addressed.

Overview
Kinesiology&Physical Education : Factors that influence the motor behaviour of individuals with a disability, including anthropometric characteristics, information processing, knowledge and self-regulation, motivation, and the social-cultural context. Cognitive and dynamic systems perspectives will be emphasized as well as developmental disabilities such as autism, intellectual disability, developmental coordination disorder, and ADHD.
