He never left. “I loved the program. I loved the professors. I loved my courses,” said Madramootoo. “It was giving me exactly what I wanted in life. I was fulfilling a dream.” After also earning his MSc (1981) and his PhD (1985) at Mac, he accepted an 11th hour offer from ��о�� for an assistant professorship, declining opportunities at other universities. Professor Ehrlicher's project aims to explore how mechanical forces, such as compression of the nucleus, affect cellular aging and stem cell differentiation, particularly in Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS). In HGPS, accelerated aging and organ defects occur, including impaired fat tissue differentiation. Researchers found that nucleus compression activates Yes Associated Protein (YAP), which slows aging and promotes bone formation from stem cells.
