Renowned violinist Violaine Melan莽on to join the Schulich School of Music string faculty
The Schulich School of Music is delighted to announce that听violinist听Violaine Melan莽on听will be joining the string faculty as Associate Professor,听beginning August 1st, 2018.
听鈥淲e are thrilled to welcome distinguished Quebec-born violinist Violaine Melan莽on on our faculty on a continuing basis. During her many years at the Peabody Conservatory, Prof. Melan莽on developed an international reputation as a stellar chamber musician, a dedicated and inspiring pedagogue and a supportive colleague. It is wonderful to see careers come full circle and bring artists of Violaine Melan莽on鈥檚 stature back to their roots after being enriched by several decades of experience abroad. Students who have had the privilege of working with Prof. Melan莽on as Visiting Professor this current year will be excited to know that she will now be at Schulich as a full-time faculty member.鈥

Previously on the violin and chamber music faculties of the Peabody Conservatory (),听Violaine Melan莽on听was听for thirty years the founding violinist of the Naumberg Award winning Peabody Trio which was ensemble-in-residence at the Peabody Conservatory from 1987 to 2016.听 Since winning the Prix d鈥橢urope in 1984, her activities as a chamber musician, soloist with orchestras, and teacher have taken her to major music centers all over the world. 听
She has a special affection for the music of today and is a serious interpreter of works of Gyorgy Kurtag, Mauricio Kagel and Zhou Long. The Israeli composer Shulamit Ran wrote a violin concerto for her and she has premiered several works by other leading composers. Among the artists with whom she enjoys collaborating are pianists Leon Fleisher, Gilbert Kalish and Peter Frankl, soprano Phyllis Bryn-Julson, and violist Roger Tapping.
She has participated in many summer festivals as violinist, teacher and guest artists, including those of Tanglewood, Ravinia, Skaneateles, Rockport, Orford, and Domaine Forget. She gives yearly masterclasses at the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and teaches regularly at NOI, the National Orchestral Institute and Festival. For many years, she has served on the faculty of Yellow Barn (), an international gathering of artists who meet each summer to explore the vast riches of the chamber music repertoire. Violaine Melan莽on鈥檚 performances can be heard on the Naxos, Artek, CRI, and New World Records labels.
