Prof. McAdams gives Distinguished Lecture at Ohio State

Prof. McAdams, the Canada Research Chair in聽Music Perception and Cognition at the Schulich School of Music,聽delivered the 2014 William Poland Lecture in Music Theory at Ohio聽State University's School of Music. The Poland lectures are an聽endowed series that presents cutting-edge perspectives on music聽theory. Prof. McAdams presented the work from a research project聽on Orchestration and Perception supported by the Quebec Society聽and Culture funding agency (FRQSC). The talk, entitled "Toward a聽psychological foundation for a theory of orchestration," was the聽first presentation of analyses of 50 pieces of music targeting聽orchestral effects related to principles of perceptual grouping.聽The analyses were conducted by a team of graduate students at the聽Schulich School of Music in composition, music theory, musicology聽and music education under the supervision of Prof. McAdams and聽PhD candidate Meghan Goodchild.
