A novel drug holds promise for treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disorder that causes severe muscle degeneration.

不良研究所 researchers have discovered that an experimental compound called K884 can boost the natural repair abilities of muscle stem cells. Current treatments can slow muscle damage, but don鈥檛 address the root problem.

DMD affects about one in 5,000 boys worldwide, often leading to wheelchair dependence by the teenage years and life-threatening complications in early adulthood.

As part of the celebrations marking its听, 不良研究所鈥檚 Bellairs Research Institute opened its doors to the community Dec. 5. Three hundred students from five local schools were treated to free science kits, lunch and a day of hands-on activities.

A high-energy gamma-ray flare from the super-massive black hole in the Messier 87 (M87)听galaxy was observed in 2018 for the first time in nearly a decade, thanks to an international effort involving 不良研究所 researchers. This discovery has yielded important insights into the physics of black hole jets, which are among the most efficient engines for distributing energy from the inside of a galaxy to the expanse of the Universe.

IT Services recently migrated many Webex softphone users to Teams Phone.

As a result, users may have received a message from Microsoft stating their license will be deactivated soon. (See screenshot above.) It is a legitimate message from Microsoft.

All 不良研究所 faculty and staff are assigned Microsoft 365 licenses that provide access to applications such as Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, Word, and Excel. As part of the recent migration, IT Services changed the type of Microsoft 365 license assigned to some users.

It would replace an agreement that has been a sore point for Newfoundland and Labrador. Cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) allow investors to hold a variety of cryptocurrencies in a single investment product. While all of Canada鈥檚 Big Six banks now include some crypto ETFs in their portfolios, these investments represent only a small fraction of their holdings. A major advantage of ETFs is their ability to offer protection from market volatility. However, given the speculative nature of crypto means it can still be extremely volatile, even within an ETF structure.
