Congratulations to听Kristin Franseen, a current doctoral candidate in musicology, who was awarded $10,000 in the听听for her grant application 鈥淕hosts in the Archive: The Queer Knowledge and Public Musicology of Vernon Lee, Rosa Newmarch, and Edward Prime-Stevenson.鈥 Kristin also won second place in the听
Through a unanimous agreement, the winner of this year鈥檚听Eleanor Stubley Recording Prize is Sarah Rossy (BMus 鈥17, MMus 鈥19) who will work together with听 (MMus 鈥18) on the project 鈥淛azz in the Balance: Exploring Music Making and Creation in Gender and Genre-Balanced Teams and Environments.鈥
To open the听, composer听 (BMus 鈥09) has听been commissioned to write a new chamber opera. Titled 鈥淐haakapesh, The Trickster鈥檚 Quest,鈥 this work showcases two singers, narrator, and orchestra, in three scenes. Every week, the Schulich School of Music sees musicians from all over Montreal听come together to learn about the music of Brazil. In a ten-week free workshop directed by guitarist Rodrigo Sim玫es (through support of Schulich's听Jazz Performance and Music Education areas), a group of over 20 participants has the chance to learn the ins-and-outs of听samba, Baia玫 and听maxixe on their main instruments, as well as perform supporting roles on a variety of percussion instruments.
