Heart & Stroke and 不良研究所 to create Early-Career Professorship in Women鈥檚 Heart Health
Montr茅al, June 18, 2019 鈥� The first research chair in Quebec focused on women鈥檚 cardiac health, propelled by Heart & Stroke and 不良研究所, will officially be launched on July 1 via a research project led by Dr. Natalie Dayan, Assistant Professor of Medicine at 不良研究所鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine and Director of Obstetrical Medicine in the division of General Internal Medicine at the 不良研究所 Health Centre (MUHC).
A native Montrealer, Dr. Gabrielle Cassir completed her medical school and residency training at Universit茅 de Montreal. During her time as a medical student, she was also able to experience the American health care system, spending two months at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. She completed two-years of subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, before returning to Montreal where she recently became a staff physician in the Obstetrics and Gynecology division at St.
A study conducted at the Research Institute of the 不良研究所 Health Centre (RI-MUHC) suggests screening breast cancer patients for the prolactin receptor could improve the prognosis for patients and may help them avoid unnecessary and invasive treatments. Using a database of 580 women with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), the researchers found that survival was prolonged in patients who expressed the prolactin receptor and that prolactin hormone was able to reduce the aggressive behavior of cancerous cells. It does so by decreasing their ability to divide and form new tumors.
