Overview

The aim of the MA in Educational Psychology, Health Professions Education concentration (thesis) is to produce graduates who:

  • Are broadly trained in educational psychology and are familiar with concepts that foster effective teaching and learning in the health professions,
  • Can design courses and programs in educational settings as well as work places (e.g., hospitals),
  • Have sufficient research competence to critically evaluate, design, conduct, and report empirical research in medical education and other health professions,
  • Have experience in applying research methods and findings to the solution of practical problems in varied educational settings,
  • Can plan and implement projects that听advance the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Academic background & CGPA

  1. An undergraduate degree in education, psychology, or another field relevant to the proposed studies in Educational Psychology. It is recommended that some prior study of a relevant branch of psychology form part of the undergraduate training.
  2. Minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of a 4.0 or higher in undergraduate studies.

International applicants

Proficiency in English

Applicants to graduate studies whose mother tongue is not English and who have not obtained (or are about to obtain) an undergraduate or graduate degree from a recognized foreign institution where English is the language of instruction or from a recognized institution in Canada or the US (anglophone or francophone), must submit documented proof of proficiency in oral and written English.

Appropriate exam results must be submitted prior to the application deadline and submitted directly from the language testing proficiency office to 不良研究所. For more information on test requirements, submission of scores, and possible exemptions, visit the 不良研究所 Future Graduate Students English Language Proficiency page.

In each case, you must ensure that the official test results are sent directly to 不良研究所 (不良研究所 Institution Code: 0935) by the testing service. Applications will not be considered if test results are not available.听 Note: TOEFL results are only valid for two years from the date the test was written.

Applicants whose mother tongue is not English may be asked to demonstrate an English-language proficiency beyond the submission of the language proficiency test scores.

Applying

We will be accepting applications for our Graduate Programs starting in听September 2023. Applications for Fall 2024 admission will be submitted on Slate, 不良研究所's online application portal.

The deadline for online applications is听December 1st听annually (Fall admission only). Click below for the application process and required supporting information.

Online Application

STEP 1. Complete online Application for Admission

    • Complete an online听不良研究所 Slate听application for admission.听Applicants should review the abovementioned program听eligibility requirements听prior听to starting their online application. Applicants should review the GPS step-by-step听Applying and 不良研究所 Help Site听before starting their application.听Note: in order to finalize and submit your Slate application, a听non-refundable application fee听is required.
    • Built into the Slate online application are numerous questions requiring personal information specific to every applicant. Program specific requirements within the application are as follows:
      • Letters of Reference: Within the online application, applicants听must provide valid institutional e-mail addresses for听three (3)听referees.听不良研究所 will send an email to each referee applicants identify on the application form, asking for a reference in support of their application to be admitted.听Referees will be invited to login to a secure portion of the 不良研究所 website where they will be required to answer questions about the applicant and will be given the ability to 1) input (via text box) a reference letter either by typing it in directly or by cut-and-paste from an existing document or 2) to upload a letter of reference in PDF format.
      • Statement of Research Interest and Preferred Supervisor(s): Within the online application, applicants are required to concisely outline their proposed听area(s) of research interest听should听they be admitted to this program听听(1100 character or approximately 250 word maximum). Applicants will also be required to听list the听name(s) of one听(1) or more Health Professions Education听faculty member(s), in order of preference, who听they would like to supervise听their area of research interest(s). Applicants should ensure their preferred supervisor has listed expertise in their chosen听area of research interest. STEP 2. Provide references & upload supporting documents

  • Within Slate, applicants must upload (in PDF format)听the following supporting documentation听by the听December听1听application deadline.听(More details on the uploading process can be viewed on the

Transcripts:听An听unofficial copy of your complete university-level academic record to date must be uploaded听through Slate- including any 不良研究所 transcripts.听(Quebec residents:听CEGEP transcripts are not required).听All transcripts received via the upload process are considered听unofficial.听听If you are offered admission, you will also need to provide official transcripts (sent to us by mail in a sealed envelope directly from the institution).听Your offer of admission will be contingent upon the receipt and verification of these official documents.听Please do not send these official records until we request them from you.
    2. CV:听A completed curriculum vitae using the ECP听Curriculum Vitae Form听[.doc] must be uploaded through Slate.
    3. Personal Statement:听A statement听no longer听than two (2) pages in length must be uploaded through Slate.听Please write the words 'PERSONAL STATEMENT' as well as your first and last name at the top of the page of your pdf document.听The statement must include the following information: a) Your reason(s) for applying to the program; b) Your career aspirations; and c) Any additional relevant information about yourself听that听you wish to bring to the attention of the admissions committee.
    4. For International applicants: Submission of documented proof of English language proficiency if applicable, as described in 不良研究所 above

Notification & confirmation of acceptance

    1. By听April 1st of each year, candidates offered potential positions in the program will receive听by email听a听"Recommendation of Acceptance"听sent to the听email address they provided in Slate. This letter serves to inform the candidate that the 不良研究所 Review Committee has agreed to recommend them into the program and that their application is being transmitted to 不良研究所's Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) for final review and acceptance. In most cases, this review takes approximately 7-10 days.
    2. After review by GPS, successful candidates will be contacted by GPS with an听official "Offer of Admission".
    3. Candidates are then required to听respond to their听offer of admission听on-line using your Slate account.
