Research:
Pathogenesis and optimal treatment of osteoporosis associated with chronic liver disease and transplantation.
My clinical activities and my research activities are focused on those disorders that affect calcium balance and metabolic bone diseases. I am particularly interested in understanding the pathogenesis of the metabolic bone disorders which are seen with chronic liver disease and the effect of liver transplantation and immunosuppression on these disorders. The large and active Transplantation Division of the Royal Victoria Hospital provides a large patient base for these studies. I am also collaborating with Dr. D. Goltzman and Dr. R. Kremer on other research projects in the area of calcium homeostasis. My clinical practice, in general endocrinology, is divided between the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal General Hospital. I greatly enjoy teaching of residents and medical students and devote much of my time to this and to the administration of the teaching program in endocrinology.
