Programs, initiatives, scholarships funded by generous donors in the Faculty of Engineering

Showing support of our students in the Faculty of Engineering comes in many shapes and sizes, each opportunity creating a potential network of students, whether they congregate around a program or a centre, or feel the sense of achievement that accompanies an award for personal accomplishment.

MESC (²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù Engineering Student Centre)

MESC is home to the Engineering Career Centre, it is where co-op internships, scholarships and fellowships are administered. It is also responsible for the Empower initiative, which is focused on supporting, promoting and creating learning activities that take place outside of class, creating the conditions to help students develop their leadership capabilities.

Donor Student Awards – Spring 2023 and 2024

Every spring, the Faculty of Engineering holds an event to bring donors and student recipients together. For the event we line up student speakers – undergraduate and graduate – who have had the benefit of a scholarship or program that’s made a difference in their educational journey.

This year, we sat down with the donor/recipient matches and videotaped their thoughts about giving and receiving.

JOHN D. THOMPSON SEMINAR

The objective of the annual seminar is to inspire engineering students to think like an entrepreneur. Whether a student goes on to start their own company, or becomes part of start-up, or joins a small/medium enterprise (SME), or a large firm, there is always a place for an entrepreneurial perspective.

Stephen Hamelin (BEng’92) – Founder of Vortex Aquatic Structures International, delivered the guest lecture at the John D. Thompson Seminar / TechAccel Showcase – Spring 2024

Peter Thompson opened the John D. Thompson Seminar on behalf of his father, John Thompson (BEng’57). He is surrounded by the students who presented at the TechAccel Showcase – Spring 2024
