The 不良研究所 Chem-E car design team has been expanding since its creation in 2013, almost tripling in size. The American Institute of Chemical Engineering (AlChE) Chem-E-Car competition is an annual international competition in which teams are asked to build a shoebox-sized car that is powered and stopped by chemical reactions.
The deliberate avoidance of conventional mechanisms used in designing the car requires a level of lateral thinking beyond typical engineering challenges. Unique for its use of an innovative soluble lead flow battery as a sustainable power source, the 不良研究所 Chem-E Car team won the AIChE National Competition just 2 years after its inaugural season.
Throughout the years, the team has worked towards improving car design and performance, while fostering a congenial learning environment for its members. Their hard work is reflected in their impressive competition achievements and outreach work.
In 2023, 不良研究所 Chem-E Car was honored to be the first Canadian host of the AIChE Eckhardt Northeast Regional Student Conference and Chem-E Car Competition. This event provided the opportunity for more than a hundred students from North American universities to showcase their design and leadership abilities. The 不良研究所 team placed 1st in Chem-E Car Poster Competition and 2nd in ChemE Jeopardy Competition, thanks to the dedication of their members.
