Main activities: Residents’ patient clinics and walk-in clinics

Supplemented by clinical activities pertinent to Maternity Care and Care of Newborns

Family Medicine Unit -
Focus on Procedure Skills

8 weeks

Clinical setting: Family Medicine Unit

Main activities: Residents’ patient clinics and walk-in clinics. Supplemented byÌý 2-3 procedure clinics per week.

Family Medicine Unit -
Focus on Mental Health

12 weeks

Clinical setting: Family Medicine Unit

Main activities: Residents’ patient clinics and walk-in clinics. Residents are also scheduled in the psychiatric emergency room and in psychiatric clinics and/or consult services.

Emergency Medicine, Adult

4 weeks

Hospital based rotation. Residents will return to their Family Medicine Unit for their continuity clinic weekly.

Family Medicine Unit/Adult Emergency

N.B. Two separate objectives docs

8 weeks

A ‘horizontalized’ rotation that alternates the residents’ patient clinics in their Family Medicine Unit with hospital based acute care.

Internal Medicine, Adult

4 weeks

Hospital based rotation: Adult inpatient ward. Residents return for their unit for their weekly continuity clinic.

Family Medicine Inpatient/Family Medicine Unit

N.B. Two separate objectives docs

8 weeks

This is a horizontalized rotation that alternates clinical exposure to an adult inpatient ward supervised by family physicians with the residents’ continuity clinic.

Care of the Elderly

4 weeks

Depending on the site, this experience involves multiple types of clinical exposure to Care of the Elderly. This can include inpatient, long-term care facilities, and outpatient clinics.

Residents return for their unit for their weekly continuity clinics.

Palliative Care

4 weeks

Depending on the site, this experience involves multiple types of clinical exposure to Palliative Care including inpatient and outpatients settings.

Obstetrics

4 weeks

Clinical setting: Obstetrical Case Room, residents work with the Obstetrical and Family Medicine service for Intrapartum, Postpartum, and Newborn care. Residents return for the Family Medicine Unit for their continuity clinic. This rotation supplements the prenatal care residents learn at their Training Unit.

Pediatric Ambulatory

4 weeks

This experience supplements our residents’ exposure to care of children and adolescents that they receive in their continuity clinics in their training units. Most residents will have opportunities to work with pediatric subspecialists and paramedical health professionals.

Pediatric Emergency Medicine

4 weeks

This intensive rotation provides important exposure to acute pediatric illness. Residents do both daytime and overnight shifts.

Pediatric Inpatient

4 weeks

Hospital based rotation that exposes residents to the most severe presentation of illness in children.
