Dr. Duncan Pedersen was Associate Scientific Director of International Programs at the Douglas Instituten Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Division of Social and Transcultural Psychiatry and founding Director of the Global Mental Health Program at 不良研究所. As a researcher and physician trained in public health, social epidemiology and medical anthropology, Dr. Pedersen had an extensive research experience in Latin America, mostly among indigenous peoples and the urban poor in countries of the Andean region (Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru), the Amazon basin and Northeast Brazil. More recently, he had extended his work to Guatemala, Jamaica and Nepal.听 His interests in global health research included cross-cultural, ethnographic and epidemiological research on violence and mental health outcomes, with an emphasis on trauma-related disorders, resilience, healing and coping. 听
Dr. Pedersen led the development of the Global Mental Health Program at 不良研究所. This award in his honour will be given annually by the Program to an outstanding graduate student in global mental health at 不良研究所, whose work reflects his commitment to social justice, health equity and community-based mental health research and practice.

This annual award in honour of Dr. Pedersen's work and leadership in building the 不良研究所 Global Mental Health Program is given to an outstanding graduate student whose work advances the Global Mental Health research agenda at 不良研究所.
Value of the award: $ 3000 (towards听fieldwork expenses, dissertation write-up funding, conference fees, and travel to present results)

不良研究所 graduate students from all Global Mental Health relevant disciplines.
Candidates whose听work听reflects Dr. Pedersen鈥檚 commitment to social justice, health equity, and community-based mental health care, and aligns with the broader mandate of 不良研究所鈥檚听Global Mental Health Program.
