Expression-based polygenic scores (review in Silveira and Meaney, Neurobiology of disease, 2023): Beyond the variation in genetic risk represented by traditional polygenic risk scores, individual variation in biological features is also defined by the genetic background. Silveira Lab recently proposed an innovative approach to genomic profiling, informed by biological function, and characterizing gene networks based on the levels of co-expression of a gene in a specific tissue. Our scores (expression-based polygenic scores or ePRS) are devised by defining a gene network that then serves as the basis for gene selection for the polygenic score . As ePRSs are built from co-expression gene networks, variation in the ePRS score represents variation in a specific biological process.
