Elinor Frey wins Opus Prize for the Berlin Sonatas

Cellist Elinor Frey, an alumni of the Schulich School of Music,听has won听the early-music recording of the year award for her disc听Berlin Sonatas on the Passacaille label. 听 Fascinated with the cello鈥檚 origins and the creative process of new music, Elinor Frey plays both period and modern instruments.

John Grew to be invested into the Order of Canada on Friday, February 12

Schulich well-represented in Prix Opus Nominations

Finalists for the Conseil Qu茅b茅cois de la musique's Prix Opus were announced last week, and there are many nominated who are听听Schulich alumni and/or faculty. 听 The Prix Opus were established in 1996 to highlight the excellence and diversity of Qu茅bec's musical offering, and are awarded in many different categories. 听The winners will be announced in a Gala event to be held on February 7, 2016. 听 Artists with a Schulich connection are highlighted in bold.

Philippe Leroux awarded the Grand Prix du Disque 2015 for Contemporary Music the Acad茅mie Charles Cros in France.

Young, Musically Gifted and In Charge: Jordan de Souza, conductor

Prepare to see a lot more of the back of Jordan de Souza's head: the young conductor is tackling some major Toronto assignments this upcoming year. De Souza, who studied music at 不良研究所, has been on its teaching staff since 2011. He was still a teenager when he was named conductor of the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in Montreal in 2008.
