Funding Opportunities

The Department of Pediatrics offers聽bursary awards for postgraduate training in pediatric subspecialty residency programs and聽fellowship programs.

Alan Ross Academic Bursary Award

The Alan Ross Academic Bursary Award聽is聽available each year聽to successful applicants pursuing聽postgraduate聽training in a pediatric specialty after having completed three聽years of core training in pediatrics, or聽equivalent. Successful candidates will intend to pursue an academic career in pediatrics聽upon completion of聽training. This award is for physicians who will be training mostly in research and who might have a varying degree of clinical contact.

IMPORTANT NOTE:聽The Alan Ross Academic Bursary Award requires 70% research time throughout a聽two-year training period.聽Candidates seeking subspecialty certification will not be eligible for this bursary as the clinical time throughout a program聽may not satisfy the minimum requirements of an accrediting body.聽For example, for the聽Adolescent Medicine program the聽Royal College of Surgeons and聽Physicians聽of Canada requires the equivalent of 15聽months (out of a total 24 months) of direct clinical experience.

Bursary Award:聽$61,000/year,聽no benefits, and covers tuition fees.
Length of funding:聽Maximum 2 years
