Congratulations to Adithi Sundarakrishnan! Adithi, from the Clarke lab won the Best Graduate Student Poster Presentation Award at a symposium held by the Center for Studies in Behavioral Neurobiology (CSBN) at Concordia University. Additionally, she secured the Best 3-Minute Thesis Presentation Award at the recent School of Biomedical Sciences (SMBS) Grad Talks event.

Congratulations to Tara Shomali, who received the prestigious Graduate Student Award from Parkinson Canada (2024-2026 cycle). This is a competitive 2-yr $40,000 award given to only 7 outstanding doctoral trainees doing research on Parkinson鈥檚 disease across Canada. This will help Tara works towards developing compounds targeting PINK1, a kinase implicated in early-onset familial Parkinson鈥檚.

Congratulations to听Zixuan Lis!听Zixuan Li听received the 不良研究所 MedStar Award for her publication entitled 鈥The Organophosphate Esters Used as Flame Retardants and Plasticizers Affect H295R Adrenal Cell Phenotypes and Functions鈥, in recognition of the excellent research carried out in the Faculty of Medicine at 不良研究所. The findings from this paper demonstrate that organophosphate esters have chemical-specific effects on cortisol and aldosterone production and thus the adrenal may be an important target for these endocrine-disrupting chemicals.

The winning papers with first authorship by graduate student, postdoctoral and resident trainees were selected to demonstrate excellence at all levels and to represent all disciplines of the training programs in the Faculty of Medicine.

The Pharmacology Undergraduate Research Expo (PURE) 2024 was held on Wednesday, March 20th 2024, McIntyre Building, room 522 and 6th floor lobby.听

PURE is an annual event held in the spring, where undergraduate students enrolled in the Pharmacology Research projects (PHAR 396, PHAR 599 and PHAR 598), have the opportunity to present their projects in a poster or oral presentation.听

A special thank you to the keynote speaker, Dr. Jacques LeLorier, Professor, ;听Chief of the (CRCHUM), who presented "The Pharmacologically Pertinent Period of Effect (PPPE)".

Oral Presentations: Spencer Riddell (Recipient of Best Oral Presentation) and Maximiliano Zablah.

Spencer Riddell presented: "Challenges in Small Sample Size Cluster Randomised Trials focused on Medication Adherence in Paediatric Transplantation: Insights from the TAKE-IT-TOO Study".听 听

Maximiliano Zablah presented: "CRISPR-Screen Identifies ASC1-complex (ASCC) as a Potential Mediator of Tungsten Toxicity".

Congratulations to our who won first place worldwide at the , with over 400 teams competing! They also won the best Therapeutics project (which had the most teams competing!), best synthetic biology parts collection, and the best presentation special awards.

In the 20 years of the iGEM competition, our 不良研究所 iGEM Team are the first Canadian team to win the grand prize at the iGEM Grand Jamboree.听

Braeden Giles wins Best 3-minute Flash Talk Award

Braeden won the Best 3-minute Flash Talk Award at the Pharmacology Research Day on May 11, 2023. His talk was entitled "Environmentally Relevant Mixtures of Organophosphate Esters Suppress THP-1 Macrophage phagocytosis". Congratulations Braeden!


Lama Iskandarani wins Best Poster or Oral Presentation Award in the Postdoctoral Fellow category

Lama won Best Poster or Oral Presentation award (Postdoctoral Fellow category) for her poster entitled "The effects of bisphenols A and its structural analogs on the expression of gene transcripts involved in the regulation of steroidogenesis in KGN human granulosa cells" at the Pharmacology Research Day on May 11, 2023. Kudos to Lama!

Congratulations to Irem Ulku, received a Junior Faculty Award at the ADPD 2023

Congratulations to Irem Ulku, from Prof. Gerhard Multhaup鈥檚 lab, who received a Junior Faculty Award at the ADPD 2023, Advances in Science & Therapy. International Conference on Alzheimer鈥檚 and Parkinson鈥檚 Diseases and related neurological disorders. The Conference was held from March 28th 鈥 April 1st, in G枚theborg, Sweden. There were over 4000 attendees and Irem was one out of 20 recipients.
