Completion of KPE's Indigenous Space: The Onkwanakt铆:io Lab

The Faculty of Education's Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) has unveiled its new Indigenous space, named the Onkwanakt铆:io lab, which aims to provide a supportive environment for Indigenous students and encourage Indigenous-focused research.

The space features a mural highlighting Indigenous athletes and a hand-carved wooden table depicting traditional Indigenous sports, underscoring the connection between culture, movement, and community.

Louis-Philippe Bateman鈥檚 fascination with megalodon began with a single sentence in a book about Canada鈥檚 geological evolution. It described giant, mysterious fossilized shark teeth discovered in the 1960s by fishermen dredging for scallops off Canada鈥檚 Atlantic coast. The curiosity felt by the teenager with a budding interest in paleontology would resurface in a meaningful way during his undergraduate years at 不良研究所.

When using music to alleviate pain, tempo matters

Music has the best chance of providing pain relief when it is played at our natural rhythm, a 不良研究所 research team has discovered.

This suggests it may be possible to reduce a patient鈥檚 level of pain by using technology to take a piece of music someone likes and adjust the tempo to match their internal rhythm, the researchers said.

McCall MacBain Scholar (2023), Mohit Kumar, is an M.A.听Educational Leadership student in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE). He is working to devise curricula for Eklavyas (have-nots), for primary school students which aims to catalyze quality education and larger behavioral changes regarding learning, educational awareness, and opportunities.
