SOUSA Checklist - academic prep

Know your rights and responsibilities. It is your responsibility to understand your degree and program requirements, starting by carefully reviewing the checklist below, as well as familiarizing yourself with our Current Students page and ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù's eCalendar, the definitive authority on all course, program, and degree requirements.

Key steps to prepare for your ACADEMIC life as B.Sc. and B.A. & Sc. students:

  1. Be aware of and read carefully through the . This central checklist provides guidance on critical steps you'll want to take care of before arriving and during your first year, such as sending final grades and legal documents, obtaining your study permit, securing housing, getting your ID card, etc.

  2. Plan your first-year course selection (and factor in any advanced standing/transfer credit you may receive)
    Read through our First-year course selection page to understand Foundation Program requirements, U0 vs. U1, degree requirements and everything you need to plan your course selection for the coming year (this includes the Fall and Winter terms).
  3. Attend virtual Pre-Registration info sessions in June

  4. Register for your courses (on Minerva)
    Check the When to register website for dates — Fall and Winter open together! See "Registration Tips" for Minerva guidance, help, and common issues. Register for at least one course by August 14 to avoid late fees!
  5. Verify your registration on Minerva
    Once you have registered for your Fall and Winter courses, login to Minerva and consult your Unofficial Transcript (Minerva > Student Menu > Student Records Menu > View Your Unofficial Transcript) to ensure there are no errors.
  6. Connect with your Degree advisor
    After registering, you'll be assigned a SOUSA Degree advisor. Summer is ideal for meeting them, ensuring proper registration, and consulting Program advisors.
  7. Learn about Science Placement Exams
    Newly admitted ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù students may earn a course exemption from one or more basic science courses by taking a Science Placement Exam before starting classes. Registration for Placement Exams is open from June 14 to August 2 and the exams will take place from August 12 to 16. Consult the Science Placement Exams website for full details and to register.
  8. Attend Discover ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù and Welcome Week activities
    Discover ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù is your chance to learn about ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù's services, clubs, teams, organizations, and faculty associations all in one place.
  9. Make sure the first day of class is on your calendar!

  10. Add/Drop
    You can adjust your registration without penalty until this date. Check syllabi before add/drop ends to plan your semester. If midterms conflict, inform professors immediately.
