Fees marked with an asterisk* are opt-outable by clicking on the Opt-out option of the Student Accounts menu in Minerva. The opt-out period is limited to the two weeks prior to the fee payment deadline in September and in late January.

AGRI 325 Sust Agr & Food Secur (DAG1)
This course has a fee of $1,720.00, a small portion of which is tax admissible on the T2202A; it includes internal travel (by coach), accommodation, most of the meals for the duration of the course, as well as instructor expenses. Please note that this amount does not includes airfare to and from the country of study, which must be arranged by the student.
Access 不良研究所 (ACCS)
The Access 不良研究所 fee is collected by the University to make 不良研究所 accessible to students with disabilities. The fee is used to provide the services, equipment and facilities necessary to help make this happen, under the jurisdiction of the Director, Office for Students with Disabilities. This fee does not apply to Macdonald College students or students in the School of Continuing Studies.
The fee was first introduced in 1988. Any changes to the fee can only be made following student referendums conducted by both the Post-Graduates鈥 Student Society (PGSS) and the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU) and must be brought back to a student referendum in Winter 2026.
Animal Science course (ANS2)
- ANSC 251 Comparative Anatomy (ANS2) - $261.07
A fee of $261.07 will be charged to cover the purchase of sufficient quantities of animals and organs for detailed dissection for students in the course.
Arts Computer Lab Fund (ARCL)*
This fee is charged to members of the Arts Undergraduate Society.
The fee funds a wide network of computing facilities that supports the use of instructional computers in the Faculty of Arts. The fee allows for the purchase and replacement of new computing facilities and equipment on an ongoing basis. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
Students opting out of this fee will no longer be granted access to the 24-hour Arts Computer Lab.
This fee was originally part of the Arts Improvement Fund. The Arts Improvement Fund was split into two funds as of the Winter 2010 term following a referendum held by the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS) in the Fall 2009. Its renewal period coincides with that of the Arts Improvement Fund.
Arts Improvement Fund (ARIF)*
This fee is charged to all Arts undergraduate students in the Fall and Winter terms. Students in the BA&Sc degree also pay this fee on a pro-rated basis.
Its sole and unique purpose is to enhance the physical and capital resources that Arts students use, such as the Arts Lounge and the McLennan/Redpath Library Complex. In the past, it has funded the renovations of the third floor of the McLennan library, the wall painting of the Arts Lounge, and the furniture for student association lounges and offices. In addition, portions of this fund support the operations of the Arts Internship Office (AIO), the Faculty of Arts Computer Labs (FACL), and the Fine Arts Council (FAC).
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva. Students opting out of this fee will no longer be granted access to the Arts Lounge in Leacock.
This fee has been in existence since 1995 following a student referendum conducted by the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS), and may be renewed every three years.
Arts Information Technology Charge (ARIT)
A fee created in 1997 and recommended by the Faculty of Arts to be charged to all BA and BSW students. The disbursement of funds generated by this charge is overseen by a parity committee of representatives from AUS and the Faculty of Arts. Funds must be distributed according to the needs of FACS, and the distribution must work towards:
- the reduction of Undergraduate Arts student membership fees for the FACL (computer Lab). The IT charge is implemented with a view to providing free membership if facilities are available.
- extending the hours of operation of the FACL
- improving the training of student consultants employed by the FACL
- maintaining the equipment run by the FACS
- providing improved Internet and curricular services for departments in the Faculty of Arts
Arts Internship Office Fee (AUIO)
The Arts Internship Office Fee is a five-year non-opt-outable student association fee to be levied from Fall 2015 up to and including Winter 2020 to support the operations of the Faculty of Arts Internship Office. The Arts Internship Fee is $14 per term for all students in the Faculty of Arts and $7 per term for each student in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts Student Employment Fund (AUGE)*
This fee contributes to the creation of academically based employment opportunities for Undergraduate Arts students on campus. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva. Students who choose to opt-out of this fee should be aware that this makes them ineligible for participation in the program for that academic semester.
This fee has been in existence since 1999 following a student referendum conducted by the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS), and may be renewed every three years.
Arts Undergraduate Society (AUGS)
The Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS) is an elected student government organization with two aims: to represent and promote the welfare and interests of its members, and to provide activities and services to enhance the educational, cultural, environmental and social conditions of its members. All undergraduate 不良研究所 students in the Faculty of Arts are members of the AUS. For each of the fall and winter semesters (but not the summer), students pay a fee which funds various activities throughout the year. Half of this fee is distributed to the department association of a student鈥檚 first major as listed on Minerva. More information can be found at the .
Any changes to this fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS).
Arts Undergraduate Theatre Society (AUTS)
This fee is charged to all Arts undergraduate students in the Fall and Winter terms. Students in the BA&Sc degree also pay this fee on a pro-rated basis.
The Arts Undergraduate Theatre Society (AUTS) is the official theatre group of the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS). Each year the AUTS puts on a major theatrical production; examples from previous years include West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, and Cabaret. The AUTS provides opportunities for students to engage in acting, producing, technical production, directing, choreography, and design. This fee will allow for more predictable finances for the AUTS and will allow the AUTS to focus on fulfilling their mission of promoting opportunities within theatre for members of the 不良研究所 community.
This fee has been in existence since Fall 2013 following a student referendum conducted by the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS), and may be renewed every three years. Students may not opt-out.
Athletics Facilities Improvement (ATHL)
The Athletics & Recreation Facilities Improvement fee is collected by the University to allow for further construction of the 不良研究所 athletics facilities.
The fee was approved for implementation in Fall 2004 following a student fee referendum held by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). The fee was renewed for an additional five years by student referendum in Spring 2014, and is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus. The 不良研究所 Fund Council committed to match student contributions for athletics facilities dollar-for-dollar.

AUS 不良研究所 Journal of Human Behaviour (MJHB) (ARHB)*
This fee is charged to Arts undergraduate students and students in the BA&Sc degree in the Fall and Winter terms. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
The 不良研究所 Journal of Human Behaviour (MJHB) is a non-profit, student-run academic society dedicated to publishing interdisciplinary undergraduate work relating to human behaviour and decision-making. This fee will be used to support the publication of the Journal鈥檚 semi-annual issues, provide employment opportunities for undergraduate students on campus, and fund MJHB鈥檚 annual Student Research Fellowship. This fee was approved through an AUS referendum in Winter 2023 and will be eligible for renewal in Fall 2028.
AUS Sustainability and Ethical Procurement fee (ASEP)*
This fee will allow the implementation of AUS鈥檚 Ethical Procurement and Sustainability By-laws and advance AUS鈥檚 Sustainability Plan (available on AUS鈥檚 Website). The named regulations intend to support the imposition of more stringent ethical and sustainability standards within AUS; the Sustainability and Ethical Procurement (SEP) fee provides the necessary funding to support the implementation of these standards. Finally, the SEP fee funds the AUS Ethical Procurement and Sustainability Fund which engages and supports community organization promoting and advancing the mandate outlined in the Ethical Procurement and Sustainability By-laws. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Arts Undergraduate Society. This fee, established as of Fall 2020, will be up for renewal in Fall 2023. This fee was approved for reneweal by referendum in Fall 2023 starting Winter 2024 to Winter 2027 inclusive.
BESS EUS Access fee (MCSA)
This fee is charged to all members of the Bioresource Engineering Student Society (BESS) and allows them to be members of the Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS). This allows Bioresource Engineering students to benefit from both student societies at Mac and downtown to optimize their student experience. By paying the EUS fee, Bioresource students would have after-hours access to engineering buildings, can use EUS spaces for team meetings or projects, hold executive positions on EUS clubs and design teams, and have reduced prices for EUS events.
This fee can only be changed following student referendums held by the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society and must be brought back to a student referendum in Winter 2026.
BESS B. Eng. Bioresource Program Fee
This fee was established in Winter 2023 after the approval held by referendum in Winter 2023. The creation of the non-optoutable fee at rate of $27.00 is charged per full-time student and $17.00 per part-time student per semester, and is payable by all BESS members starting fall 2023 until winter 2026 (inclusive).
This fee can only be changed following student referendums held by the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society and must be brought back to a student referendum in Winter 2026.

Biology courses (BIO2, BIO3, BIO4, BIO5, BIO6, BIO8)
- BIOL 240 Monteregion Flora (BIO2) - $485.56
This course, given at the University鈥檚 Gault Nature Reserve in Mont St. Hilaire, has an additional fee of $485.56 which includes a hand lens, a textbook, handouts, lodging and supper each day. The fee is only refundable prior to the deadline to withdraw with full refund. The department of Biology subsidizes a portion of the cost for this activity.
- BIOL 331 Ecology and Behaviour (BIO5) - $688.37
This course, given at the University鈥檚 Gault Nature Reserve in Mont St. Hilaire over a two week period in August, has an additional fee of $688.37 which includes room and board and handouts. The department of Biology subsidizes a portion of the cost for this activity.
- BIOL 334D2 Applied Tropical Ecology (BIO4) - $ 1,847.31
This course, given in Barbados, has an additional fee of $1,847.31 to cover the costs of room and board at Bellairs Research Institute, the course pack and all other expenses during the course. It does not cover tuition, airfare, flight insurance, airport taxes, meals in transit, or the cost of supplementary health insurance. The fee is only refundable prior to the deadline to withdraw with full refund.
- BIOL 432/632 Limnology (BIO3) - $353.32
This course, involving two field weekends, has an additional fee of $353.32, which includes room and board and transportation. The fee is refundable during the period where a student can drop the course with full refund. The department of Biology subsidizes a portion of the cost for this activity.
- BIOL 573 Vertebrate Palaeontology (BIO6) - $1,500.00
This course, given at selected localities in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan in May, has an additional fee of $1,500.00听which includes room and board, museum entrance fees, and transportation during the course, but not tuition or transportation to western Canada. The fee is refundable during the period where a student can drop the course with full refund.
- BIOL 335 Marine Mammals (BIO8) - $1,858.12
The fee for this field course is $1,858.12 to cover fees related to the use of facilities for teaching and lab spaces in the Huntsman Marine Center (lodging, meals, facility rental spaces, transportation and tour fees).
Bioresource Engineering Career Centre (MCSC)
This fee is paid by all undergraduate students Enrolled in the B. Eng. Bioresource Engineering program in the faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The 不良研究所 Engineering Career Centre (ECC) offers career services for students in Engineering. The Centre helps students find part-time and summer jobs during their studies and full-time permanent employment after graduation. This fee was first created in 2017 following a student referendum conducted by the Bioresource Engineering Association (BEA), and may be renewed every three years. .
Bioresource Engineering courses (BRE1, BRE2, BRE3, BRE4, BRE5, BRE6, BRE7, BRE8, BRE9, BR1E)
- BREE 314 Agri-Food Buildings (BRE1) - $133.90
This course carries an additional course charge of $133.90 to cover transportation costs for field trips which may include an agri-centre, sugar shack and winery. The fee is only refundable prior to the deadline to withdraw with full refund.
- BREE 327 Bio-Env Engineering (BRE2) - $12.32
This course carries an additional course charge of $12.32 to cover transportation costs for field trips which may include a solar installation site and, if registrations permit, a bio-ethanol plant. The fee is only refundable prior to the deadline to withdraw with full refund.
- BREE 533 Field Trip (BRE3) - $38.81
The courses BREE 533 Water Quality Management carry an additional charge to cover the cost of transportation with respect to a field trip. The fee is only refundable prior to the deadline to withdraw with full refund.

- BREE 531 Post-Harvest Drying (BRE7) - $45.96
This course carries an additional course charge of $ 45.96听to cover transportation costs for two field trips which may include at least two visits to distinctly different drying facilities in the field.
- BREE 655 IWRM Research Visits (BRE8) - $74.73
This course carries an additional course charge of $74.73 to cover transportation costs for field trips related to the course.
- BREE 530 Fermentation Engineer (BRE9) - $ 121.94
A fee of $ 121.94听covers the cost of the fermentation laboratory consumables and transportation costs for field trips which may include a brewery, winery and other fermentation operations. The fee is refundable only during the withdrawal period with full refund.
- BREE 322 Organic Waste Management (BR1E) - $50.00
A fee of $50.00 is charged to support a field trip to local waste management facilities for guided tour and information-gathering for a course assignment as well as some laboratory supplies for hands-on composting and/or anaerobic digestion lab.
Brazil Study Abroad (DBR1 and DBR2)
This optional course is part of the Brazil Study Abroad Program which has a fee of $3,134.32 which includes a 12 day trip to Brazil for company visits and classes. A portion of the fee is eligible for a tax receipt on the T2202A, and includes accommodation in Brazil, breakfasts, local course related transportation, as well as instructor costs.
CA Base Camp Seminar (CABC)
CA Base Camp is an optional activity for students entering the Graduate Diploma in Public Accounting (the CA Program). It operates primarily as a four day intensive week, the week before the program starts, but includes three individual coaching sessions during the first summer. The Camp allows students an opportunity to ensure they have the skills expected of them to maximize their learning opportunities in the CA program, particularly related to learning with cases and writing case based exams.

CLAS 345/645 Field Trip 鈥 Sum (DHC1)
This fee is associated with registration in this course and covers travel expenses that relate to the annual Classical Studies (or History) field trip to the Mediterranean not听including airfare from Montreal to Europe; but includes听ground transportation in chartered bus for the duration of the trip; all overnight stays in hotels plus breakfast; entrance fees to all sites visited throughout the tour.
CLAS 349/649 Field Trip Italy (DHC2)
There is a fee of $3,013.46 for the 不良研究所 Salapia Field School in Italy associated with registration in CLAS 349. The fee includes shared apartment accommodation for groups of four students, meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner M-R and breakfast and lunch M-F), field tools and weekday transportation to and from the dig site. Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements to Puglia and travel insurance costs.
Summer Studies in Italy (DLLP)
The fee for this field course is $3,443.00. The fee for this activity covers ground transportation, academic materials, accommodation, and other field related expenses.
Clinic Maintenance 3rd/4th Yr (DECH)
This fee is charged to all 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Dentistry. In 2014, the Faculty moved to a new site.听This fee covers costs associated with the maintenance and improvement of the Undergraduate teaching Clinic.

Course Package Copyright Fee (DMGT)
This includes charges for the copyright expense on the material included in the course packs for specific courses taken in the Desautels Faculty of Management, where the publisher of the materials has opted out of the Copibec Quebec agreement or where the instructor is using more materials than is covered by the agreement. The charges vary depending on the number of documents for each course and the source of the material.

Daily Publications Society Fee听(DALY)
The 不良研究所 Daily, in production for over ninety years, is the only independent student newspaper at 不良研究所, and is entirely run by volunteers. The 不良研究所 Daily is published twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays. This fee, charged to all students except in the School of Continuing Studies, Graduate Medicine and Macdonald campus students, supports its publication. Please visit the 听for more information.
Any changes to the fee can only be made following student referendums conducted by both the Post-Graduates鈥 Student Society (PGSS) and the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
This fee has been approved held by referendum conducted by Elections PGSS in winter 2023 continuing as a recognized student organization supported by student fees and with that, the renewal of the non-optoutable fee at rate $3.35 per full and part-time members on the downtown campus (excluding Postdoctoral students) per semester and $1.68 per Additional session/Non-thesis extension/Thesis Evaluation student per semester, starting fall 2023 to winter 2027 (inclusive).听 The referendum held in winter 2023 did not approve the increase of this fee from $6.00 that is payable by SSMU members.听 The fee payable by SSMU members will go back to referendum in winter 2027.
Dentistry YR2/YR3/YR4 Equip & Supplies (DE2Q or DE3Q or DE4Q)
Students registered in the Faculty of Dentistry are required to purchase equipment and supplies from the Faculty during the second, third and fourth years of the undergraduate program. Equipment purchased in the second year is used in third and fourth years and will likely be used when the student enters their own practice. A detailed invoice is included as an insert to the e-bill when these charges are included. The charges will be billed in two installments, once at the beginning of the Fall term and once at the beginning of the Winter term. Occasionally the billing will be estimated early in the Fall, but the final invoice amount will be established by November.
Earth & Planetary Science courses (EPS1, EPS2, EPS3, EPS4, EPS5)
- EPSC 210 Rock Kit Fee (EPS4) - $20
A nominal fee is charged to cover expenses of material and supplies for identification kits (pen magnet, streak plate, hand lens and acid bottle) used to identify minerals during laboratory exercises.

A nominal fee is charged to cover expenses of material and supplies for identification kits (pen magnet, streak plate, hand lens and acid bottle) used to identify minerals during laboratory exercises.
- EPSC 231 Field Course Fee (EPS1) - $628.08
This course, given in Sutton, has an additional fee of $628.08 to cover the costs of transportation, meals and accommodation as well as other field expenses. The fee is only refundable prior to the deadline to withdraw with full refund. The department of Earth and Planetary Science subsidizes a portion of the cost for this activity.
- EPSC 331 Field Course Fee (EPS3) - $611.92
The field school will be based around the Bay of Fundy, and central Nova Scotia and has an additional fee of $611.92 to cover the costs of transportation and accommodation as well as other field expenses. Six days will be spent around the Chignecto peninsula, including visits to Parrsboro, Joggins, and Cape Chignecto park. The remaining time will be spent between Pictou, Wolfville and the Annapolis valley, and the coast south of Halifax.
- EPSC 341 Field Course Fee (EPS2) - $611.92
This course, given every alternate year, has an additional fee of $611.92 to cover the costs of airfare, meals and accommodation as well as other field expenses. The fee is only refundable prior to the deadline to withdraw with full refund. The department of Earth and Planetary Science subsidizes a portion of the cost for this activity.
ECP Assess Materials Resources (ECP1)
Students taking courses which access the ECP Assessment Materials Resource Centre are required to pay an access fee as well as the cost of all consumables required per course. The fee is dependent on the number of consumables/protocols used in each class and is refundable during the withdrawal with full refund period.
EDEC 233 Indigenous Education (ED36)
不良研究所 Faculty of Education has a solid record of engagement in Indigenous Education through the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education and related programs including Certificates for First Nations and Inuit. The addition of the required course, EDEC 233 -Indigenous Education, for all 不良研究所 BEd students deepens this engagement and demonstrates 不良研究所鈥檚 commitment to responding to the TRC鈥檚 Calls to Action. EDEC 23 3Indigenous Education has been offered for three years. Based on what we have learned from students, instructors, and community members, we are now in the process of revisioning the course to support key aspects of Indigenous education including intergenerational learning and Elders as the most respected teachers, diversity of Indigenous voices and experiences, experiential and hands-on learning and pedagogy and medicine wheel teachings 鈥 mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical learning.
EdUS Career Advising Fee (EDCS)
This fee is charged to all undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Education. The fee is for continued support for the Career Advisor position in the Faculty of Education. This individual, organizer of such Faculty-wide events like the annual Career Fair, serves all undergraduate students in a mentorship and advisory role.
This non-opt-outable fee was established in 2012 following a student referendum conducted by the Education Undergraduate Society (EdUS), and is required to be renewed every three years. The fund will be up for renewal in Winter 2024.

Education Graduate Students鈥 Society/Journal of Education (EGSS)
This fee is charged to all graduate students in Education and is split as follows:
a) 80% of the fee supports the Education Graduate Students' Society, which promotes academic activities such as conferences and seminars as well as social activities (Welcome event, BBQ, etc.) The fee was increased in 2005 to make travel grants and awards available to graduate students in Education. The fee may be renewed by a student-held referendum in Winter 2008.
b) 20% of the fee supports the 不良研究所 Journal of Education, which serves a distinct purpose in the field of educational research, theory, and practice. A major goal of the Journal is to provide a window into developments in education in Quebec. The Journal is published three times a year: in Winter, Spring, and Fall. .
Any changes to this fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Education Graduate Students' Society under the auspices of the Post-Graduate Students鈥 Society (PGSS) on behalf of graduate students in education disciplines.
Education Undergraduate Society (EDUS)
A fee is charged to all undergraduate Education students to support the activities of the Education Undergraduate Society. Its role is to provide a voice for all undergraduates within the Faculty of Education. The society organizes events to promote and enjoy student life as education students.
Any changes to this fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Education Undergraduate Society (EdUS).
Engineering Career Centre (EUCC)
This fee is paid by all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering, including the School of Architecture. The 不良研究所 Engineering Career Centre (MECC) offers career services for students in Engineering. The Centre helps students find part-time and summer jobs during their studies and full-time permanent employment after graduation. This fee was first created in 1998 following a student referendum conducted by the Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS), and may be renewed every two听years.听听This fee was last approved by referendum held in Winter 2023, and is effective Fall 2023 up to and including Winter 2026 at $50.00 per semester for all regular members of the Engineering Undergraduate Society.
Engineering Computing Fee (ENCO)
This fee funds a wide network of computing facilities and supports the use of instructional computers, hardware, and specialized software for the use of students enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering.
The fee was implemented in 1996 after consultation with student groups for all students in Engineering and the School of Architecture. In 2003 the fee was extended to graduate students in Urban Planning. In 2024, the fee was extended to students enrolled in all non-thesis Masters of Engineering programs. Engineering Design Team Fund (EUDT)*
The Design Team Fund Fee was created in 2007 to support undergraduate Engineering Design Teams at 不良研究所. Administered by the Engineering Undergraduate Society, the Design Team Fund Fee is collected from members of the EUS, and distributed to Design Teams, to support their competitive endeavors. By providing additional funding to Design Teams, the Design Team Fund Fee helps ensure the continued success of Engineering Design Teams at national competitions. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
This fee was first approved in Winter 2008 and recently was approved to continue to be levied up to and including Fall 2022. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS). This fee was approved for increase by referendum in Fall 2023 starting Winter 2024 to Winter 2028 inclusive.
Engineering Student Space Fund (EUSI)*
This fee, initiated in 2014, is paid by all undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Engineering, including all students registered in the School of Architecture. The purpose of the fee is to be a sustainable resource for the future to improve, maintain, and create engineering undergraduate student space through capital expenditures. This allows the EUS to take on large projects which could not normally be supported by the operating budget, such as major renovations and the acquisition of space, as well as smaller projects benefiting the quality of student space.
The Student Space Fund fee replaces the Space Improvement fee and will be managed by the Student Space Fund Committee of the Engineering Undergraduate Society.
The existence of the fee shall be put to referendum once every ten (10) years, and can only be changed following a student referendum conducted by the Engineering Undergraduate Society.
Engineering Undergraduate Equipment Fund (EUGE)
This fee initiated in 1987, is paid by all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering. The purpose of the fee is to provide undergraduate engineering students with lab equipment that is addition to what is normally supplied by the University. The fund is jointly administered by the Faculty and the Engineering Undergraduate Society.
This fee can only be changed following a student referendum conducted by the Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS) and is renewable in Fall 2027. This fee was approved for renewal by referendum in Fall 2023 starting Winter 2024 to Winter 2027 inclusive
Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUGS)
This fee is charged to all undergraduate engineering students from the Faculty of Engineering,听including students from the School of Architecture. The fee covers the costs of running the Engineering Undergraduate Society's operations. The role of the Society is to represent and promote the views of its members, and to implement academic, cultural, educational, physical, professional, social and other programs of interest to engineering students. Environment Fee (SSEF)*
This fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to support sustainable initiatives led by student groups or for initiatives to promote a culture of sustainability on campus. Initiatives that reduce the environmental impact of groups on campus are also eligible.
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). This fee, established as of Winter 2019, will be up for renewal in Winter 2023.
EUS MESC Engineering UG Support Fund (EUMF)
This fee is charged to all undergraduate engineering students from the Faculty of Engineering, including the School of Architecture. The purpose of the fee is to provide undergraduate engineering students with additional support and resources for academic and career advising by staff at the 不良研究所 Engineering Student Centre. GEOG 290 Field Course Fee (DGF2)
A听fee of $412.99 is charged to all students registered in GEOG 290. This course is held at Mont Sutton, in the Eastern Townships during a week-end in mid-September. The fee is used to support the cost of transportation, accommodations, local fees and all meals.
GEOG 398 Field Studies in Human Geography (DGF9)
This fee is related to field course Geog 398 which is being re-activated (last offered in early 1990s) to enable undergraduate students in Geography to meet locally the requirement to take two field course during their program. The field course will be held every year and be based at The Gault Estate run by 不良研究所 at Mt. St. Hilaire. Students will receive accommodation, food and transportation. Costs of two to three professors and one TA to be covered by students. The trip duration is 9 days and 8 nights at the end of August.
GEOG 425 Field Trip Fee (DGF8)
A fee of $1,508.63 covers the cost of a 2 week urban field studies course in Singapore and Malaysia, including accommodation, ground transportation and entrance fees. Students are responsible for arranging their own airfares to Singapore.
GEOG 470 Wetlands Field Trip (DGFW)
A fee of $169.95 is charged to all students registered in GEOG 470. The fee will be used to support the cost of transportation (van rental, parking, and gas) additional cost for accommodations and food will be the students responsibility. The trip is required and will give students an opportunity to conduct field study in at least 3 different types of wetlands.
GEOG 495 Field Course Fee (DGF3)
A fee of $579.99 in Summer 2024 is charged to all students registered in GEOG 495. This course is held at the Gault Estate at Mont St.-Hilaire during May. The fee is used to support the cost of transportation, accommodations, local fees and all meals for approximately 12 nights.
GEOG 496 Field Course Fee (DGF6)
A fee of $2,811.65 in Winter is charged to all students registered in GEOG 496 Geographical Excursion. The course is held in Barbados, West Indies and is given during the last week of February (Study Break). The fee is used to support the cost of transportation, accommodations, local fees and some meals for ten days. Note that the trip to Barbados is compulsory if you enroll for GEOG 496.
GEOG 499 Field Course Fee (DGF4)
A fee听of $2,261.27 is charged to all students registered in GEOG 499 Subarctic Field Studies. This course is held at Schefferville, Quebec in late August through early September. The fee is used to support the cost of transportation, accommodations, local fees and all meals. The department subsidizes a portion of the cost of this compulsory activity for each student registered in a Geography Major or Honours program.
Hot Cities World Tour (DMG1)
The Hot Cities Tour is a yearly trip taking 不良研究所 students to different countries to meet with local business leaders and learn about emerging economies. Main expenses include flights from Montreal over Frankfurt to Moscow , hotels in Moscow and St Petersburg , meals, trains , local transportation and some tourist activities.

International Journal of Sustainable Development Law & Policy (LSJS)
This fee was introduced in 2005 and is charged to all undergraduate Law students. This fee is indexed to inflation supporting a student-run journal whose aim is to contribute to legal scholarship.
The fee is collected by the Law Students鈥 Association on behalf of the Journal and can only be modified following a student referendum conducted by the Law Students鈥 Association (LSA).
Journal of Medicine (JMED)
This fee is charged to all undergraduate Medicine students. The 不良研究所 Journal of Medicine, published biannually, is the only peer-reviewed international biomedical journal entirely run by students. The main focus is on student research and publishing in biomedical sciences, but there are also special forums for current social issues that are of concern for medical students. Its goal is to provide its readers with a global perspective of clinical medicine and accentuate the pressing social concerns as well as denoting new scientific breakthroughs.

Laboratory Maintenance 2nd YR (DEER)
This fee is charged to all 2nd year undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Dentistry. In 2014, the Faculty moved to a new site.听This fee covers costs associated with the maintenance and improvement of the Preclinical Simulation Laboratory.

Law Career Development Office (LSAP)
This fee, initiated in 1998, is charged to all undergraduate and graduate students in Law. The purpose is to fund the position of a full-time Career Development Coordinator.
In 2007 undergraduate students voted to further fund a position of Career Development Office Coordinator. The Faculty of Law provides some matching funding to support this student-initiated levy.

Law Computing Fee (LSAC)
This fee, initiated in 2001, is charged to all undergraduate and graduate students in Law. The fee supports the purchase and replacement of new computing facilities and equipment on an ongoing basis. In addition it helps to pay for a professional computer technician dedicated to supporting students鈥 computing needs at the faculty on a daily basis. Lastly, this fee may be used to support new technologies as they become available.

Law Students鈥 Association (LSAS)
This fee, charged to all undergraduate Law students, is composed of two components, one to cover the costs of running the Association鈥檚 operations (including the funding of clubs and services) and the other to support the publication of the weekly newspaper Quid Novi.

Legal Information Clinic (LAIC)
This fee is charged to support the 不良研究所 Legal Information Clinic (MLIC) and is payable by all students, except for Continuing Education students and students on the Macdonald campus. The Clinic is staffed by law students who provide members of the 不良研究所 and Montreal communities with legal information and referrals, including on landlord/tenant law, family law, consumer protection and employment law. For 不良研究所 students, the Clinic also operates the Student Advocacy Program, which provides assistance in filing grievances or contesting disciplinary proceedings involving the University. In addition, the Clinic offers seminars on a variety of legal topics to any group who requests this service. The Clinic also offers a free Commissioner of Oaths service. LSA - Contours Voices of Women in Law Journal (LSCV)

LSA Human Rights Working Group (LSHI)
This non opt-outable fee, paid by all students in the Faculty of Law will provide a total of four (4) $500.00 bursaries annually to law students in various years of study, who are seeking internship opportunities in the field of international human rights development.
This fee was initially approved in November 2011 and was renewed from the Winter 2019 up to and including Fall 2021. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Law Students' Association (LSA).
LSA 鈥 Innocence 不良研究所 (LSIM)
Members of the Law Student鈥檚 Association have voted to finance the activities of Innocence 不良研究所, a student-run organization in the Faculty of Law. Their mandate is to investigate claims of wrongful convictions in the province of Quebec. There are significant costs associated with this mission, including but not limited to, administrative disbursements, court costs, fees for private investigators, DNA testing, transportation, and conferences.
This fee was established in January 2006, and was renewed in January 2013 for a period of three years, after which if it is to be continued, must be approved through a student referendum conducted by the Law Students Association.
LSA Journal Int'l Law/Legal Pluralism (LSJG)
This fee, initiated in Fall 2017, is charged to all undergraduate law students. Inter Gentes: The 不良研究所 Journal of International Law & Legal c is the first international law journal to be founded at 不良研究所's Faculty of Law. Inter Gentes is a student-run, peer-reviewed, online journal which aims to rethink international law through the lens of legal pluralism by publishing academic articles on various topics of international law. Inter Gentes is an open access journal, which means that all material on the platform is free of charge.
Students' contributions go towards funding the journal's academic mission, supporting its core administration costs and maintaining its online platform. This fee is collected by the Law Students' Association on behalf of the Journal and can only be modified following a student referendum conducted by the Law Students' Association (LSA). It must be renewed every three years.

This fee is charged to all members of the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society. Members include all undergraduate, graduate and Farm Management & Technology students identified as being on the Macdonald campus. The Society was first formed in 1910 as a student self-government that would oversee all aspects of Campus life. The society represents Macdonald campus students and presents their concerns to the University. The fee supports MCSS student activities and publications and helps fund Macdonald Campus groups and organizations.

MACES Virtual Health Fee (MADL)**
These fees were created to address the problems of accessibility to health care in Montreal and Canada. Virtual healthcare (provided by Dialogue) is offered by AEEPM, in partnership with Studentcare. This online platform allows students to consult nurses or doctors at any time via the mobile application or on the web from anywhere in Canada. Additionally, students can contact nurses or doctors within one hour during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and within two hours outside of regular business hours (8 p.m. at 8 o'clock).
These fees, implemented in fall 2021, will be collected until winter 2029, when they will be resubmitted to members for renewal. These fees, from which students can opt out, are billed to all AEEPM members. Any change to fees can only be applied following a student referendum conducted by the AEEPM. .
MACES KeepmeSAFE Fee (MAKS)
This fee was created to address the increasing challenge of accessing mental health services within 不良研究所 and within the City of Montreal. KeepmeSafe is a mental health counselling service provided by Morneau Shepell that will give 不良研究所 School of Continuing Studies students access to hundreds of licensed counsellors located within the City of Montreal for in-person counselling with minimal wait times, and 24/7/365 immediate unlimited access to licensed counsellors through telephone and secure clinical mobile chat.
This fee was established as of Winter 2023 and will be levied until Winter 2024. This fee is non-optoutable and is charged to MACES members. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the 不良研究所 Association for the Continuing Education Students (MACES).

Management Career Centre (MGCC)
This fee is charged to all undergraduate students registered in the Desautels Faculty of Management. The Soutar Career Centre offers career services exclusively for students in Management, helping BComs choose a career path, find internships, and secure full-time employment after graduation. This fee directly helps fund the operations of the Soutar Career Centre, including funding numerous undergraduate career advisors.
This fee was established in 1997 following a student referendum conducted by the Management Undergraduate Society (MUS), and was made permanent in 2014. The MUS Council reviews this fee every year, and any changes can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the MUS.

Management Undergraduate Society (MGUS)
The Management Undergraduate Society (MUS) is an accredited student association that represents all undergraduate students enrolled at the Desautels Faculty of Management. Its mission is 鈥渢o promote the personal, academic, and professional development of BCom students.鈥 The MUS fee supports the general operations of the organization, as well as providing subsidies and funding to its events, services, clubs, and competitions.
Any changes to this fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the MUS.
Materials Engineering Co-op Program Fee (COMT)
This administrative fee is paid by all undergraduate students in the Materials Engineering Co-op Program to cover expenses related to this self-funded program. For example, the co-op program administrative staff helps students find co-op jobs, provides them with individualized career counselling, networks with industrial contacts to develop job opportunities for the students and administers the course content for the required industrial training courses. The fee is not a job placement fee and is non-refundable.
This fee was implemented in 1997 when the materials engineering co-op program was founded.
MBA International Study Trip (MBA2)
A fee of $3,000.00 is charged. You will have the opportunity to visit multiple companies, meet with senior executives, and truly experience business in an international country. Learning through on-site company visits, meetings with senior executives, classroom settings, workshops and seminars. Experiential learning takes place in classes located in foreign destinations and includes presentations, group projects and field surveys. This a requirement for graduation.
不良研究所 Journal of Dispute Resolution (LSDR)
This fee, implemented in Fall 2015, is charged to all undergraduate law students. The 不良研究所 Journal of Dispute Resolution (MGDR) is an academic journal published by students of the Faculty of Law that focuses on alternative dispute resolution methods and accepts among its academic peer-reviewed articles student contributions of high calibre. The MJDR is published on-line and free of charge.
Students' contributions goes towards funding the journal's academic mission, supporting its core administration costs and publishing the journal on an annual basis. This fee is collected by the Law Students' Association on behalf of the Journal and can only be modified following a student referendum conducted by the Law Students' Association (LSA). The 不良研究所 Journal of Law & Health is open-access, meaning that content is available freely to all online.

不良研究所 Law Journal (MGLJ)
The 不良研究所 Law Journal is an academic legal journal established in 1952 by the students of the 不良研究所 Faculty of Law. More than fifty years later, and still entirely student-run, it is committed to the advancement of legal scholarship in both the common and civil law. Amongst university law journals, 不良研究所's is especially unique as a result of its bilingual, bijuridical character, and its success as the most frequently quoted university law journal by the Supreme Court of Canada.
The current fee was approved for implementation in Fall 1988 following a student fee referendum held on behalf of the Journal by the Law Students鈥 Association (LSA). The fee is charged to all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Law. The Law Journal is not subject to the Law Students鈥 Association rules with respect to elections, and thus follow the rules of Senate.

The fee was approved through a SSMU referendum for implementation in Fall 2010, a PGSS referendum for implementation in Winter 2014. This non opt-outable fee is charged to all undergraduate students on the downtown campus, all graduate students on both the downtown and Macdonald campuses. The fee has been approved held by referendum in winter 2023 to an increase at rate $1.50 per student per semester, payable by all PGSS members at the downtown and Macdonald campuses (including postdoctoral students), starting fall 2023 to winter 2027 inclusive.听 The fee at rate $4.00 has been approved by referendum in winter 2023 and is renewed to be payable by all SSMU members, starting fall 2023 through winter 2028 inclusive, as the increase was not approved.

The 不良研究所 Writing Centre (MWC) is the University's central resource for written communication. The MWC Ancillary Fee provides support for continuation of the Centre's non-credit resources, which include one-to-one individualized tutoring and small-group workshops on a variety of writing genres and topics, and for development of new initiatives both on site and online. MCSS Bioresource Engineering Association Fee (MCSR)
This fee ($14 for full-time / $7for part-time) is charged each semester to all members of the Bioresource Engineering Association (BEA), first approved in Fall 2016. until Winter 2021. The fee lapsed after Winter 2021, but a Fall 2021 fee referendum renewed and increased the fee to the stated level as of Winter 2022. This fee provides funding for incurring external programming costs and engineering association services. Students may not opt-out.

MCSS Bioresource Engineering Club Fee (MCSE)
This fee, charged to all undergraduates of the Bioresource Engineering program, exists to ensure a secure source of funding to support student clubs that provide services related to the Bioresource Engineering program and are affiliated with the Bioresource Engineering Student Society (BESS).

MCSS Building Maintenance Fund (MCSB)
This fee is charged to all members of the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society to cover the cost of general maintenance and the cost of the MCSS offices in the Centennial Centre.

MCSS Business Operations Fee (MCSN)
This fee is charged to all Macdonald Campus students to support the business operating costs and business overhead costs of the MCSS, which includes but is not limited to permanent staff salaries and supporting and upgrading MCSS businesses.
MCSS Class Fee (MCSL)
This fee is charged each semester to all Macdonald Campus undergraduates and Farm Management Technology students. The accumulated funds are used to raise funds for receptions and/or events for the graduating class.

This fee is charged to all Canadian undergraduate and Farm Management & Technology students to compliment existing provincial medicare programs. International students are registered for Dental coverage only (MCSD). The plan is administered by ASEQ (Quebec Student Health Alliance). MCSS KeepmeSAFE (MCKS)
This non-opt-outable fee exists to provide all MCSS members with access to the Keep.meSafe mental health counselling service available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year (24/7/365). The service provides access to counsellors who understands your experience and the unique needs of your community, mental health counselling in over 60 languages, and can be accessed internationally. Keep.meSAFE include access to in-person counselling, secure clinical mobile chat (through MySSP app), telephone, and video chat within a short waiting time

MCSS Legal Essentials Service Fee (MCLT)**
This fee provides quick access to legal counselling on any area of law via a legal consultation service. The Program also includes legal representation for housing, employment, academic, and human rights disputes, small claims support, and civil mediation. Eligible students can opt out of the Legal Care Program fee at during the appropriate Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period indicated online.
The fee is billed each semester to all members of the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society (MCSS). It was established in Fall 2021 and renewed in Winter 2023, and will be submitted for renewal again in 2028. Changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the MCSS.
This fee has been approved held by referendum for a renewal and increase at rate $30.00 per student to be charged in the fall semester for full year access (September to August) , and pro-rated to $20.00 for students who begin in the winter semester for partial year access (January to August), payable to all MCSS members starting fall 2023 until winter 2028 (inclusive).
MCSS Student Life Fund (MCST)
This fee ($9) is charged each semester to all members of the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society beginning in Fall 2021, and has been approved for renewal and increase by referendum held in Winter 2023.听 The fee is charged per student per semester, payable by all MCSS members effective fall of 2023 until winter 2025. This fee is used by the undergraduate student associations under MCSS, including AESUS, BEA, DHNUS and FSA for student activities. Students may not opt-out.

MCSS Virtual Health Care (MCDL)**
HI (Virtual Health Care), provided by Dialogue, is a telemedicine service that gives students unlimited bilingual access to nurses and physicians 24/7 via a mobile or web app from anywhere in Canada. Eligible students can opt out of the HI fee at during the appropriate Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period indicated online.

MCSS World University Service of Canada (MCSW)
The World University Services of Canada fee is dedicated to sponsoring refugee students to study at 不良研究所 for a year under a program organized by the local committee of the World University Service of Canada. The fund is administered under an agreement between the 不良研究所 local committee of WUSC, the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society, and the University. The fees go towards a scholarship fund called the 不良研究所 Students鈥 Pilkington Scholarship Fund.
This fee, charged to students who are members of the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society (MCSS), can only be changed following student referendums held by the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society and must be brought back to a student referendum in Winter 2026.
Medical Students鈥 Society (MDSS)
The Medical Students鈥 Society (MSS) represents its members and promotes their views in all dealings with the Faculty of Medicine, 不良研究所 and the community at large.
This fee is charged to all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine to support the costs of running the Society. The fee covers of costs associated with providing summer gym membership, the maintenance of the Medical Annex, membership in the Federation of Quebec Medical Student Societies, supporting the Health Sciences Library, amongst other things. MGSC 483/BUSA 649 Costa Rica (DMCR)
A fee of $3,050 is charged to cover the costs of accommodation for 10 nights in Costa Rica, all ground transportation, entrance to national parks and natural reserves, most meals, and all course infrastructure and materials. Students will participate in experiential learning opportunities in the course. Students will participate in site-tours, hands-on work, and ecotourism to gain knowledge and appreciation for Costa Rica's trailblazing conservation efforts. With an emphasis on triple-bottom line, students will learn about the intersection of ecosystem preservation and Costa Rica's tourism industry. The fee will allow analytics students to apply their skills in a hands-on manner, while sustainability students will use their systems knowledge. The course is an interdisciplinary approach to analytics that anticipates the need for data experts for addressing sustainability and climate issues.
Mining Engineering Co-op Program Fee (COMI)
This administrative fee is paid by all undergraduate students in the Mining Engineering Co-op Program to cover expenses related to this program. For example, the co-op program administrative staff helps students find co-op jobs, provides them with individualized career counselling, networks with industrial contacts to develop job opportunities for the students and administers the course content for the required industrial training courses. The fee is not a job placement fee and is non-refundable.
This fee was implemented in 1988 when the mining engineering co-op program was founded.
MMR Program Int'l Study Trip (MMR1)
As part of the experiential module of the MMR program, students will have the opportunity to participate in an international study trip and spend one-week in a retail-centric city visiting retail companies and meeting practitioners to learn about working at each specific firm and the retail space. A fee of 2,500$ is to be associated with any student who will participate in the trip, the fee will cover part (~50%) of flight, hotel, meals, events, and transportation.
MScA Clinical Name Badges (DMNB)
Students in the M.Sc. Applied (Communication Science) program are required to carry identification while on off-campus internship sites. A fee of $23.70 is charged to all enrolled students to cover the cost of two name badges. The fee is non-refundable after July 31st, unless special permission is obtained by the department.
MSS Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) Fee (MDCS)
The Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) is the organization representing over 8,000 medical students from 14 Canadian medical student societies from coast to coast. The CFMS represents medical students to the public, to the federal government, and to national and international medical organizations. All medical students of 不良研究所 are members of the CFMS and this fee covers student membership in the association.
This fee has been approved for increase held by referendum to $100.00, payable only once by first year medical students in the first semester of the MDCM (Medicin忙 Doctorem et Chirurgi忙 Magistrum) degree program, starting fall 2023 with the Class of 2027 and continuing for an indefinite period.
MSS Student Affairs Fund Fee (MDSA)
The MSS Student Affairs Fund Fee is charged to all undergraduate medical students in the MDCM (Medicin忙 Doctorem et Chirurgi忙 Magistrum) degree. This fee goes to the MSS Student Affairs Fund, an endowment trust fund which was re-established in 2019 in order to provide the Medical Students鈥 Society (MSS) with a source of sustainable income.
The yearly income from the MSS Student Affairs Endowment Fund may be spent on whichever initiative the MSS executive thinks will contribute best to student affairs. This includes, but is not limited to, portfolios such as conference funding, clubs, medical education and wellness initiatives.
The fee is $4.00 and is in place until Winter 2027, at which time a student referendum conducted by the Medical Students鈥 Society (MSS) could be held to continue the fee.听 This fee is not-optoutable.
MUSA Student Life Fund (MUSL)
On March 20th, 2008, undergraduates in the Schulich School of Music voted to contribute a fee of $2.50/semester in support of the Music Undergraduate Students' Association (MUSA) Student Life Fund. Broadly defined, the intention of this fund is to support initiatives among music students. Successful projects could include events, conferences, publications or productions that benefit the academic, social, or physical well-being of the student body, that increase the profile of students' creative output, or that enhance community within the Schulich School of Music.
A parity committee comprised of students and faculty will meet up to 2 times per semester (excluding summer) to allocate the funds on the merit of the proposals received. The selection committee will consist of the President of the MUSA; two other MUSA members appointed by the Executive; the Dean or an Associate Dean; a professor in the Department of Performance; and a professor in the Department of Music Research. The committee may withhold any amount of the fund in the absence of appropriate proposals. A report will be published by April 30th of each year by MUSA detailing the funding allocated in the previous year.
The fee applies to both full- and part-time undergraduate students in the Schulich School of Music, and is non-opt-outable. This fee can only be changed following a student referendum conducted by MUSA and may be renewed every three years.
Music Accompanist Fee (DMUA)
Most music students registered for practical instruction are eligible for a specified number of hours of piano accompaniment subsidized by the Schulich School of Music. The Music Accompanist Fee is charged to students according to the number of hours utilized. Information on eligibility, allotted number of hours, and staff, is available from the Department of Performance at the beginning of each term. Students must have their requests for subsidized accompaniment approved by the Department before undertaking rehearsals.
Music Computer Lab -听Graduate (MGSC)*
This fee is charged to all graduate students in Music. The fee supports the purchase and replacement of music-specific software (music notation, audio editing, etc.) computers and music-related hardware in the Music Students' Computer Lab on an ongoing basis. In addition it helps to pay for a professional computer technician dedicated to supporting students' computing needs in the Lab. Funds collected for this purpose are jointly administered by the Faculty of Music, the Music Undergraduate Students鈥 Association and the Music Graduate Society. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva, but should be aware that this then makes them ineligible to use the facilities.
Music Instrument Fee (DMUI)
The fee is paid by all undergraduate students in the Schulich School of Music. The Music Instrument Fee is assessed to help offset the cost of keeping instruments and other equipment in suitable performance condition.
Music Library Fee - Graduate (MGSL)
This fee, charged to all graduate students in Music, is used to extend specific Music Library opening hours in the evenings and on weekends during the Fall/Winter terms. Funds may also be used to purchase collections and other equipment for student use.
Music Library Special Fee (MLIB)
This fee, charged to all undergraduate students in Music, is used to extend specific Music Library opening hours in the evenings and on weekends during the Fall/Winter terms. Funds may also be used to purchase stapling supplies and other equipment for student use.
Music Suppl Private Lesson Fee(DMUP)
Part-time students registered for practical instruction will be charged a supplemental Practical Instruction Fee in addition to the Music Private Lesson Fee and the per-credit fee. The fee is also assessed when students have used up their quota of lessons at the per-credit rate, as detailed in the Music section (under Tuition Fees) of the University Calendar.

This fee is charged to all students in the Schulich School of Music who are taking private practical lessons on their principal instrument as defined in the calendar. The fee is automatically levied on all students registered in courses with the MUIN听prefix, including all private practical lesson instruction, but excluding all voice coaching or exam registrations. The fee supports the additional and exceptional costs associated with the provision of private lessons to students in music programs. The fee is $342.19; $684.37 per course.

A $387.03 fee is charged to all students registered in WILD 401, Fisheries and Wildlife Management, a course that has a required field trip. The Department of Natural Resource Sciences subsidizes a portion of the cost of this compulsory activity. The fee is only refundable prior to the deadline to withdraw with full refund .

A $1,236.94 fee is charged to all students registered in WILD 475 Desert Ecology, a course that is based on site visits in the southwestern US, that include representative areas of the Chihuahuan (Texas), Sonoran (Arizona) and Mojave (California) Deserts. This fee is used to support the cost of transportation once in the USA, entrance fees, meals听and the operation of the support vehicle and crew. Students will be responsible for their own airfare.
Nursing 21st Century Fund (NURF)
The Nursing 21st Century Fund Fee is a non-optoutable fee of 5.00$ per semester charged to all undergraduate nursing students. The fee was established in 1994 to provide students with resources to support initiatives enhancing professional development and learning. This fee is collected by the Nursing Undergraduate Society and can only be modified following a student referendum . It must be renewed every three years.
Nursing Clinical Skills Kit (DNCS)
This fee is charged to all nursing students who register in courses where clinical skills are taught to students in the Nursing Learning Laboratory. The fee is for clinical skills kits that students will use during their training in the Nursing Learning Laboratory. The kits also contain additional materials for students to take with them after the training to allow them to practice the skills they learn on their own.
Nursing Undergraduate Society (NSUG)
The Nursing Undergraduate Society is a student-run council which promotes communication amongst the nursing student body, the School of Nursing Staff, and with the rest of 不良研究所 through its alliance with SSMU 鈥 the Student Society of 不良研究所.
Through its student fees, the NUS is able to promote student participation in extracurricular activities at 不良研究所 and within the School of Nursing by organizing many academic, social, and athletic events throughout the year. For instance, the fee contributes to costs involving student participation in the National Nursing Games, the Regional and National CNSA conference, an annual career fair, frosh, graduation, the faculty and student 鈥渕eet & greet鈥, the Canadian Nursing Student Association membership, annual donations to two community organizations and much more. N95 Resp Training & Fit Test (N95R)
Students enrolled in the M. Sc. Applied Communication Sciences and Disorders - Speech-Language Pathology program are required to be fitted for and trained in the use of an N95 respirator. The use of N95 respirators might be needed while performing clinical activities at practicum/internship sites.
Occupational Health Practicum - Distance听(POCC)
The Distance Education program is not exclusively off-campus. There is a practicum for each course during which students are required to come to 不良研究所. The practicum is usually scheduled during the last third of the session. The practicum agenda is designed to give students practical experience in the different disciplines of Occupational Health. Practicum sessions have their own specific objectives and methods. The tutors supervising the practicum will evaluate your performance using various evaluation methods. Practicum sessions are a mandatory part of the program.)

PGSS Daycare Fee (PGDC)
This fee was created to enhance the childcare services available at the SSMU Daycare. Its primary purpose is to expand the Daycare services to children from 18-24 months old by providing additional staff. The fee also goes to cover some administrative overhead as well as activities for the children.
This fee was established in Fall 2020 and will be levied until Winter 2025 at which point it will be brought back to the membership for renewal. This fee is non-optoutable and is charged to all PGSS members excluding members of the Macdonald Campus. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Post-Graduate Students鈥 Society (PGSS).
PGSS GLSA Student Life Supplem (PGLX)
This fee is charged to all graduate students in law (including post docs), and its proceeds provide additional funds to support the operations of the Graduate Law Students Association (grad lounge facilities, social activities, etc.).
This fee was approved by GLSA members in September 2017. The start of the collection of the fee was Winter 2018, and the fee has been approved by referendum held to be renewed at rate $15.00 per student per semester, and is payable by all PGSS members registered in graduate law programs, including post-doctoral students, starting in fall 2023 up to and including Winter 208 inclusive. Renewal or modification of this fee is subject to the approval of GLSA members by way of referendum.听 This fee is non-optoutable.
PGSS Grants Program Fee (PGGP)
($2.07/member/term)
This fee establishes the funding for the PGSS-GPS Grants Program which provides financial support for events and projects of academic and philanthropic nature initiated by and for PGSS members and PGSS - Post-Graduate Student Associations. It can be used to help host conferences, lecture series, symposia, and a host of other events and projects. The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies also contributes to the funding for this program. The Grants Program Fund is administered by the PGSS and disbursements are made by the PGSS Member Services Committee in accordance with the PGSS's governing documents.
This fee is levied equally from every PGSS regular member on a per semester (fall and winter) basis. This fee has no end date and is not opt-out able. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a referendum of PGSS members conducted by the Post-Graduate Students' Society (PGSS).
PGSS Health and Dental Insurance Plan Fee (PGDE, PGHE)**
Graduate students classed as Canadian full-time, part-time* or additional session/non-thesis extension, as well as all students in a thesis evaluation term or who are post-doctoral candidates (that are classified as PGSS Members), are automatically covered by the Post Graduate Students鈥 Society鈥檚 Health and Dental Insurance Plan (HDIP). Students who do not have valid Canadian Medicare (e.g., RAMQ, OHIP, etc.) should refer to the University Administered Health Plan. International students are registered for Dental coverage only (PGDE). *The change to include part-time students in the plan is effective with the Winter 2023 term for newly enrolled students. The fee will be applied to all part-time students starting in the fall term of the 2023-2024 academic year.
Students not charged for insurance fees during the fall semester will be automatically enrolled in the insurance plan during the January adjustment period (at 2/3 of the annualized rate). This fee was created to address the increasing challenge of accessing mental health services within 不良研究所 and within the City of Montreal. Keep.meSafe is a mental health counselling service provided by Morneau Shepell that will give all 不良研究所 students access to hundreds of licenced counsellors located within the City of Montreal for in-person counselling with minimal wait times, and 24/7/365 immediate unlimited access to licenced counsellors through telephone and secure clinical mobile chat.

PGSS Midnight Kitchen Fee (PGMK)*
The Midnight Kitchen fee ($2.00) supports the serving of pay-what-you-can vegan meals five days a week. They provide a healthy, affordable environmentally sustainable alternative to corporate food services on campus. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

This fee exists to maintain funding for the PGSS' Needs Based Bursary Program which provides financial aid to PGSS members pursuing masters or doctoral studies who demonstrate financial need, with priority given to members who are caring for dependents. The Program is funded by income from an endowment created by the PGSS and the University for such purpose. The Program is administered by 不良研究所's Scholarships and Student Aid Office.

PGSS Quebec Student Union Membership (PGQS)*
The QSU membership fee ($5.43) supports the Quebec Student Union (QSU) which is an alliance of 11 university student associations, collectively representing more than 93,000 members across Qu茅bec. It's purpose is to defend the rights and interests of students by promoting, protecting, and improving the conditions of both students and their communities, locally and internationally. It is a politically and financially independent body. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
This fee is levied equally on every PGSS member, each fall and winter term. The fee was introduced effective as of Fall 2024 until Winter 2028 inclusive and is opt-outable. PGSS Regular Membership Fee (PGSS)
($35.39/member/term)
The Post-Graduate Students鈥 Society (PGSS) represents all graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at 不良研究所. The PGSS engages in advocacy, outreach, and lobbying, provides activities, events and services to its members, and operates restaurant, pub and catering services out of the David Thomson House Graduate Student Centre which it maintains for its members. This fee is collected in the PGSS' Society Activities Fund and disbursements from this fund are made in accordance with the PGSS's governing documents. This fee has no end date, is not opt-out able, and increases each year with the Consumer Price Index (as calculated for the calendar year previous ending on March 31st).
This fee is levied equally from every PGSS regular member on a per semester (fall and winter) basis. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a referendum of PGSS members conducted by the Post-Graduate Students' Society (PGSS).
PGSS Special Projects Fee (PGPR)
($4.60/member/term)
This fee is for the purpose of financing special projects of the PGSS that require funding outside the normal operational funding implemented by PGSS' permanent fee levies. Special projects are approved by the PGSS in accordance with the procedures set out in its governing documents.
This fee is levied equally from every PGSS regular member on a per semester (fall and winter) basis. This fee levy ends in the winter term of 2027 and is not opt-out able for the duration. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a referendum of PGSS members conducted by the Post-Graduate Students' Society (PGSS).
PGSS Student Life Fee (PGSL)
($10.10/member/term)
This fee is used by the PGSS to provide funding to Post-Graduate Student Associations (PGSA) that the PGSS recognizes following procedures set out in its governing documents. Collected funds are made available to PGSS recognized PGSAs in proportion to each PGSA's number of members.
This fee is levied equally from every PGSS regular member on a per semester (fall and winter) basis. This fee has no end date and is not opt-out able. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a referendum of PGSS members conducted by the Post-Graduate Students' Society (PGSS).
PGSS Thomson House Upkeep Fee (PGSP)
($0.76/member/term)
This fee is for the purpose of financing the maintenance by the PGSS of the David Thomson House Graduate Student Centre which is the home of the PGSS. This fee is not for the purpose of capital investments or leasehold improvements.
This fee is levied equally from every PGSS regular member on a per semester (fall and winter) basis. The fee has no end date and is not opt-out able. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a referendum of PGSS members conducted by the Post-Graduate Students' Society (PGSS).
PGSS Virtual Health Care (PGDL)**
The PGSS Virtual Health Care, provided by Dialogue, is a telemedicine service that gives students unlimited bilingual access to nurses and physicians 24/7 via a mobile or web app from anywhere in Canada. Eligible students can opt out of the HI fee at during the appropriate Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period indicated online.
The fee is billed each semester to all PGSS members. It was established in Fall 2021 and has been approved held by referendum to be renewed in Winter 2023, and will be submitted for renewal again in 2025. Changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by PGSS.听 The fee at a rate $44.84 per student to be charged in the fall semester for full year access (September to August), pro-rated to $29.90 for students who begin studies in the winter semester for partial year access (January to August), payable by all PGSS members (at both downtown and Macdonald campuses), starting fall 2023 and ending in winter 2025 (inclusive).
Physical & Occupational Therapy Course/Lab Fees (DFPO)
A fee is charged to all degree-seeking undergraduate students in physical and occupational therapy, as well as all graduate students in MScA (OT), MScA(PT) or in a qualifying year for the MScA (OT) or MScA (PT), to cover the costs of consumable supplies used for the practice of skills in the clinical setting. Such costs may include materials for making splints (orthoses), laundering sheets, materials and tools used to assess and evaluate patients, activity analysis (e.g. making crafts, manipulating tools in baking, etc.) to evaluate movement, etc.
Plant Science courses (DPL1, DPL2, DPL3)
- PLNT 358 Field Week Expenses (DPL1)
A听fee of $95.46 is charged to all students registered in PLNT 358, Flowering Plant Diversity, a course that has a fieldwork component prior to the beginning of classes in August. This fee is used to support the cost of excursions, a hand lens, instructional handouts and identification aids. Students who have already received a hand lens may request a reimbursement of a portion of this charge through their department. The fee for a particular term will be found in the class schedule on Minerva.
- PLNT 460 Field Trip Fee (DPL2)
This course carries an additional charge of $170.00 to cover the cost of transportation (bus rental) for local field trips. The fee is refundable only during the withdrawal with full refund period. The fee for a particular term will be found in the class schedule on Minerva.
- PLNT 221 Field Trip Fee (DPL3)
This course carries an additional charge to cover the cost of transportation (bus rental) for local field trips. The fee is refundable only during the withdrawal with full refund period. The fee for a particular term will be found in the class schedule on Minerva.
POTH Clinical Practicum (DPOP)
A clinical practicum fee per day is charged to all students registered in the courses POTH 675 at $761.25, POTH 676 at $609.00, and POTH 677 at $304.50, in the Graduate Certificate in Assessing Driving Capabilities. This fee is used by SPOT to cover the costs paid to the clinical sites who are offering the clinical practicums in each of these courses. The duration of the practicums vary from 2 to 5 days and the fees are adjusted accordingly.
POTH On-line Document/WEB Updates (DPOT)
An administrative fee is charged to students registered in each of the courses in the on-line Graduate Certificate programs offered in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy to cover the costs related to updating the content and the documents posted on the web for these on-line courses.
QCST 336 Quebec Studies Summer (QCS1)
This course carries an additional charge to cover the cost of guided visits to the following 5 Montreal Museums: Pointe-脿-Calli猫re, Mus茅e d鈥檃rch茅ologie et d鈥檋istoire de Montr茅al; Centre d鈥檋istoire de Montr茅al; Mus茅e d鈥橝rt contemporain de Montr茅al; Mus茅e des Beaux-Arts de Montr茅al; Mus茅e McCord; Mus茅e d鈥檋istoire de Montr茅al. The fee is refundable only during the withdrawal with full refund period.
Quebec Public Interest Research Group (QPIR)*
A 1988 referendum established QPIRG on the 不良研究所 campus to operate as a student-funded, student-directed research, education and action organization oriented around social and environmental justice issues. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva. The objectives of the Quebec Public Interest Research Group at 不良研究所 are:
- to promote and conduct research in the province of Quebec on social and environmental justice issues
- to facilitate student participation in public interest research and action, creating linkages between students and the wider Montreal community
- to promote and undertake public action and social change, in partnership with community members and through its system of affiliated working groups

Radio CKUT (CKUT)*
Radio CKUT 90.3 FM is a non-profit campus community radio station owned by its membership and whose programming is provided entirely by volunteers. The station provides alternative music, news and arts & culture programming to the city of Montreal and surrounding areas through its FM broadcast and over the web to the world.
A student radio fee has been in existence since January 1986. CKUT was created in 1987 with 不良研究所 students supporting CKUT through the payment of this fee. Any changes to the fee can only be made following student referendums conducted by both the Post-Graduates鈥 Student Society (PGSS) and the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). RELG 332 鈥 Meals/Transport (DRS1)
This fee is charged to all students registered in RELG 332 Conversations Across World Religions which is a two-week intensive interfaith course taught by 7 scholars. The fee is used to support the cost of transportation and meals for daily field trips which are compulsory for all students.

Science 21st Century Computer Fund (SCIF)
This fee is charged to all Science undergraduate students. Students in the BA&Sc degree also pay this fee on a pro-rated basis.
The Science Twenty-First Century Computer Fund is used to purchase and maintain a network of computers (INFOPOINTS) used by science students. The INFOPOINTS network is maintained by a group of volunteers called the 不良研究所 Science computer Taskforce. Since the inception of the Computer Taskforce, the fleet of INFOPOINTS has grown from 12 computers to over 140. The fund was initially created in the Fall 1994 and typically comes up for renewal every two years. Students may not opt-out.
Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Science Undergraduate Society (SUS).听 The fee has been approved held by a referendum for renewal at rate $17.00 for full-time B.Sc. students, $8.50 for part-time B.Sc. students, $8.50 for full-time B.A&Sc. students, and $4.25 for part-time B.A&Sc. students, per semester, starting fall 2023 until winter 2025 inclusive.
Science Student Space Improvement (SCSS)
This fee is charged to all Science and BA & Sc undergraduate students in the Fall and Winter terms. Its purpose is to support the acquisition and maintenance of a student space specific for the aforementioned students, providing an area dedicated to studying, meeting space, peer support, and collaboration. In addition, a portion of the fee will be used to reduce the financial strain on departmental associations involved in the renovation or improvement of student spaces readily available to ALL students in the above mentioned groups..
This non-optoutable fee can only be charged following a student referendum conducted by the Science Undergraduate Society and has been in existence since Winter 2015. The fee must be renewed every 3 years and is currently approved up to and including the Winter 2024 term.
Science Undergraduate Society (SCUG)
This fee is charged to all Science undergraduate students. Students in the BA&Sc degree also pay this fee on a pro-rated basis.
This is a fee charged to all undergraduate science students for the purpose of running the society鈥檚 own internal activities. The fee is subject to ratification by the Society鈥檚 members voting in a referendum called for that purpose. Department councils receive at least $1 of the Society fee per semester for every student registered in that department.
Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Science Undergraduate Society (SUS).
SCS Career Development Success Package (SCSD)
This fee is non opt-outable and is charged to all School of Continuing Studies (SCS) students who are members of MACES, registered in credit and non-credit courses in the Fall, Winter and Summer terms. Students enrolled in credit courses are charged $6.60 per credit听and students in non-credit courses are charged the corresponding amount ($6.60 per billing hour, typically three per course).
Students will have access to a consolidated suite of services offered by the 不良研究所 Writing Centre (MWC) Tutorial Service, while they remain fee paying students, in addition to career services provided by the Career Advising and Transition Services (CATS) unit while fee paying students and up to 18 months post-graduation. The fee is valid for five years, effective Fall 2019, up to and including Winter 2024 at which time MACES will bring the student fee back to the student body in a referendum.
SSMU Ambassador Fee (SSAM)*
The purpose of this fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, is to create a fund to support the participation of groups on campus in extra-curricular and academic competitions and conferences. The funds from this fee will sponsor participation in and travel to these competitions and conferences, with allocations to be decided upon by the SSMU Finance Committee. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
This fee was first approved in Fall 2009 and recently was approved to continue to be levied from the Winter 2021 up to and including Fall 2025. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students' Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
SSMU Anti-Violence Fee (SSAV)*
This fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to support initiatives led by student groups that help support survivors. This can include supporting initiatives that revolve around advocacy or outreach concerning sexual violence.
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

SSMU Arab Student Network (SSAS)*
This fee ($0.50), charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to fund the Arab Student Network. With this fee, the Arab Student Network can provide the appropriate resources, support, referral, awareness and education by the enriched heritage of the Arab world, for the enjoyment and benefit of the entire student body.听

SSMU Black Affairs Fee (SSBA)
The compulsory SSMU Black Affairs Fee will serve to support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) students on campus and will contribute to the ongoing effort of the SSMU to build capacity for institutional advocacy and equity for Black students. This follows the successful creation of the Black Affairs Commissioner and the Black Affairs Committee and will help to fund their work.
This fee is established as of Fall 2022 and will be up for renewal in Winter 2027. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
SSMU Black Students鈥 Network (SSBN)*
The Black Students鈥 Network Fee is a fee levy that funds the Black Students鈥 Network. With this fee, the Black Students鈥 Network will increase its projects and resources for promoting discussions on race on campus, namely through holding events regarding black issues. Additionally, it will help increase the services and events that it provides to the 不良研究所 community and the Montreal area at large. This includes, but is not limited to, Children鈥檚 Day, Black History Month initiatives, Soul Food Friday lunches, and their numerous discussion panels on race.
This fee was approved for implementation in Winter 2015 and was approved for renewal by referendum held in Winter 2024, and will be levied up to and including Winter 2029. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus ($2 for full time students and $1 for part-time students as of Fall 2024). SSMU Bursary Fund (SSUB)*
This fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to provide bursaries to needy 不良研究所 students. All funds collected by this fee are matched by alumni dollars. The funds are administered by the 不良研究所 Student Aid office located in the Brown Building. Information about student aid is available at the Student Aid site. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

SSMU Campus Life Fund (SSUC)*
This fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to support campus life activities. Funding decisions are made on a regular basis by the SSMU Finance Committee. Projects funded include journals, Engineering design teams, conferences, social events, and other student life on or around campus. SSMU Club Fund Fee (SSCF)*
This fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to ensure a secure source of funding to support student clubs and services that foster student life on campus through the creation of the Club Fund.

The Community Engagement Fee is intended as a source of financial assistance to empower students to engage in charitable initiatives. The fee is disbursed by the SSMU through the Community Engagement Fund, and is used for initiatives that contribute to building connections between 不良研究所 students and the surrounding community and/or promoting active volunteerism among 不良研究所 students. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period on Minerva.

SSMU Community Solidarity (SSCS)*
The Community Solidarity fee aims to remove hurdles faced by grassroots organizations by not requiring recipients to have an organizational bank account to receive funding from SSMU. This provides grassroots organizations more access to SSMU funding and widens the range of campaigns SSMU is able to support.
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

SSMU Daycare Fee (SSMC)
This fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, was created to supplement the childcare services available at the SSMU Daycare. Its primary purpose is to expand Daycare services to children from 18-24 months old, by providing additional staff. The fee also goes to cover some administrative overhead, as well as activities for the children.
This fee was approved in Spring 2006 and will be levied for as long as a Daycare service is provided on campus. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
SSMU ECOLE Project Fee (SSME) *
The SSMU Ecole fee ($2.00) funds the Educational Community Living Environment Project (ECOLE), a living and learning sustainable living project that support applied student research, alternative education, and community building, as well as providing a free space to student and community working groups. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
This fee was first approved in Spring 2015 and has been approved for renewal held by referendum in Winter 2023, and will be levied up to and including Winter 2028.听 The fee is payable by all SSMU members starting Fall 2023 and ending in Winter 2028 (inclusive). SSMU Environment Fee (SSEN)*
The SSMU Environment Fee ($1.25), also known as the SSMU Green Fund, was created to empower campus members to engage in sustainable initiatives on campus and in their personal lives as well as build a culture of sustainability on campus. The Green Fund has made it possible for many non-environmental groups to run more environmentally-friendly events where the changes required would have otherwise been financially untenable. Any SSMU member is eligible to apply for this fund. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
This fee was established as of Winter 2019 and was approved for renewal held by referendum in Winter 2023 and will be up for renewal in Winter 2023. The fee is payable by all SSMU members starting fall 20230 and ending in Winter 2028 (inclusive).听 Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student fee referendum held by the Students' Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
SSMU Equity Fee (SSEQ)*
The SSMU Equity Fund was created to empower campus members to engage in initiatives that foster leadership, encourage civic engagement, and make observable and/or measurable differences in the representation or experiences of individuals who are members of historically and currently disadvantaged groups. The fund supports projects, research and policies that aim to end discrimination and promote accessibility and inclusiveness in the 不良研究所 community.
Any SSMU member who pays this fee is eligible to apply for this fund. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
This fee was re-approved in Spring 2016听through a student-fee referendum held by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). The fee will be up for renewal in Winter 2021, and any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the SSMU.
SSMU Grocery Fee (SSGR)*
The SSMU Grocery Fee ($1.00) is to support SSMU's Grocery Program, an initiative made in an effort to address food insecurity that SSMU is offering to our members who are facing financial constraints and rising food costs due to inflation. The program will be facilitated by the SSMU from our University Centre on rue McTavish, directly on campus, and will be open to any of our members who need to purchase groceries whether last-minute items or cooking basics. This is an opt-outable fee.
The fee was created and approved in Winter 2023 held by referendum, payable by all SSMU members starting Fall 2023 and ending in Winter 2028 (inclusive).听 Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). This fee, established as of Fall 2023, will be up for renewal in Winter 2028. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus.
SSMU Health and Dental Plan (SSMH and SSMD)**
This fee is charged to all Canadian downtown campus undergraduate students to complement existing provincial medicare programs. International students are registered for Dental coverage only (SSMD). The plan is administered by ASEQ (Quebec Student Health Alliance). Contact or telephone (514)789-8775 / 1 866 795-4435 for more information. Students are permitted to opt-out if they provide proof of equivalent coverage by the opt鈥搊ut date. Students starting in the winter semester are automatically enrolled at 8/12 of the annualized rate. This fee is opt-outable at during the opt-out periods set and communicated on their website.

SSMU Indigenous Equity Fund (SSIE)
The SSMU Indigenous Equity fee is a non-opt-outable fee, $1.50 per semester (excluding summer), for all full and part-time SSMU members. Approved in the Fall 2019, this fee is to start in Winter 2020 and to be charged until Winter 2025 (inclusive). The fund serves three main purposes. First, funding the activities of the SSMU Indigenous Affairs Committee and the salary of the Indigenous Affairs Commissioner. Secondly, it is used to finance projects led by Indigenous student groups, or Indigenous equity-seeking groups on campus. Thirdly, it is a source of financial support for Indigenous undergraduate students at 不良研究所. Any Indigenous student would be able to apply to the fund for financial assistance for anything from groceries to tuition.

SSMU IRSAM Fee (SSIR)*
The International Relations Students鈥 Association of 不良研究所 (IRSAM) is the only student-run organization in the world to hold special consultative status with the United Nations鈥 Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the only organization affiliated with 不良研究所 to be federally registered as a Canadian non-profit organization.听 This opt-outable fee supports a variety of initiatives of this Association including the International Relations Review academic journal, allowing 不良研究所 students to travel to the UN headquarters to present policy proposals, offering support to 不良研究所 students who volunteer each year to help run the 不良研究所 Model UN assembly, interactive workshops and community service projects.
The fee ($1.00) was created and approved in Winter 2023 held by referendum, payable by all SSMU members starting Fall 2023 and ending in Winter 2028 (inclusive).听 Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). SSMU keepmeSAFE Fee (SSKS)
This non-opt-outable fee supports access to the keepmeSAFE 24/7/365 mental health services (including access to in-person counselling, secure clinical mobile chat, telephone, and video chat).

SSMU Legal Essentials Service Fee (SSLT)**
The Essentials (Legal Care Program) provides quick access to legal counselling on any area of law via a legal consultation service. The Program also includes legal representation for housing, employment, academic, and human rights disputes, small claims support, and civil mediation. Eligible students can opt out of the Legal Care Program fee at during the appropriate Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Period indicated online.
The fee is billed each semester to all members of the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). It was established in Fall 2023 and will be submitted for renewal in 2025. Changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the SSMU.听 The fee at rate $30.00 per student is charged in the fall semester for full year access (September to August), and pro-rated to $20.00 for students who begin in the winter semester for partial year access (January to August).
SSMU Library Fund (SSUL)*
This fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to provide additional support to the 不良研究所 Library Network. All funds collected by this fee are matched by alumni dollars. The funds have been used to provide longer operating hours, improve collections, improve study space, computers, as well as to provide student employment. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

SSMU Menstrual Hygiene Product (SSHP)
The non-opt-outable SSMU Menstrual Hygiene Product Fee supports the purchase by the SSMU of menstrual hygiene products in bulk and will effectively eliminate the entire cost of those products to its members that would require them during their time at 不良研究所 as a member of the SSMU. The fee will also entail the creation of a Health and Hygiene Products fund, which will be directly funded by any surplus monies, to eventually be disbursed for the purchasing of alternative menstrual hygiene products, to be supplied at a subsidized rate or free of charge.
This fee was first approved in Winter 2017 and was approved to continue to be levied up to and including听Winter 2025. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus.
SSMU Mental Health Fee (SSMM)
This fee has been approved for renewal and increase, held by referendum, to $0.75 per semester per student, payable by all SSMU members starting Fall 2023 and ending in Winter 2026 (inclusive).听 It is charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to support student-run mental health initiatives, the annual Mental Health Awareness week, Mental Health Coordinator student staff hours, funding of student staff to coordinate SSMU鈥檚 mental health initiatives and advocate for improved University-run services, as well as contribute to creating a .
Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). This fee, established as of Fall 2016, will be up for renewal in Winter 2026.
SSMU Midnight Kitchen Fee (SSMK)*
The Midnight Kitchen fee has been approved for renewal and increase, held by referendum, to $8.00 per semester per student, payable by all SSMU members starting Fall 2023 and ending in Winter 2028 (inclusive).听 听The fee supports the serving of pay-what-you-can vegan meals five days a week. They provide a healthy, affordable environmentally sustainable alternative to corporate food services on campus. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
This fee was first approved in Fall 2007 and was approved to continue to be levied up to and including Winter听2028. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus.
SSMU Muslim Students' Assoc (SSMA)*
This fee has been approved for renewal and increase, held by referendum, to $1.55 per semester per student, and is charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students and is used to fund the Muslim Student Association. This fee will be used by the Muslim Student Association to provide appropriate support, resources, awareness, and education about Islam to the entire student body.
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

SSMU Musicians' Collective Fee (SSCM)*
The SSMU Musicians' Collective Fee supports the volunteer-run organization that provides a public "jam space" within the SSMU building for all registered 不良研究所 students to book free of charge. The Musicians' Collective also provides a network of musicians to facilitate music making at all levels, and coordinates and promotes performance opportunities for bands and ensembles. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

SSMU MUSTBUS Fee (SSBU)*
The SSMU MUSTBUS Fee supports a student-run bus service to connect the 不良研究所 campus to Toronto, New York, Ottawa, Boston, and other destinations on weekends and holidays. This fee will be used to subsidize trips and fund general operations to ensure the long-term sustainability, affordability and accessibility of the service. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period on Minerva.

SSMU Plate Club Fee (SSPL)*
This fee ($0.14) is charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists to support the Plate Club. The Plate Club is a sustainability initiative that provides free rentals of reusable dishware to various groups in the 不良研究所 Community, with the goal of reducing waste generated by the usage of disposable products.
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

This fee, established as of Winter 2019, has been approved for renewal by referendum held in Winter 2023, and is charged per semester per student, starting Fall 2023 and ending in Winter 2028 (inclusive), and will be up for renewal in Winter 2028.
SSMU Queer Equity Support Fee (SSQE)
This compulsory fee was established in order to support a bursary that would fulfill the needs of queer students not receiving enough support in academia, and also facing more barriers to employment, formal scholarships, and familial support. The fee will be used to fund grassroots research to further build the support systems of the queer community which will help to improve the community and queer living conditions in the 不良研究所 community as a whole.
This fee was established as of Winter 2024 and will be up for renewal in Winter 2029. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
SSMU Referral Services Fee (SSMF)*
This fee has been approved for renewal and increase, held by referendum, to $6.03 and is charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, was created to fund the operations of certain SSMU services, such as Queer 不良研究所 and Nightline. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
This fee was first approved in Spring 2006 and recently was approved to continue to be levied from the Fall 2023 up to and including Winter 2028 (inclusive). Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
SSMU Safety听Services Fee (SSSN)
The Safety听Services Fee is a fee levy that helps fund the SSMU safety services which include the 不良研究所 Student Emergency Response Team (MSERT), Drivesafe, Walksafe, and the Sexual Assault Centre of the 不良研究所 Students Society (SACOMSS). This fee supports these invaluable services that assist students with their mental and physical wellbeing as well as their general safety both on campus and in the wider 不良研究所 community.
This fee was approved for increase by referendum in Fall 2023 starting Winter 2024 to Winter 2029 inclusive, at which point it will be brought back to the Membersihp for renewal. It is has been approved held by referendum to an increase at a rate of $7.01. The increase is to allocate $3.54 to the DriveSave program and to MSERT. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus.听 Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).听 This fee is not-optoutable.
SSMU Student Academic Support Services Fee (SSSS)*
The SSMU Academic Support Service Fee is an opt-outable fee, .93 per semester, payable by all full-time and part-time SSMU members. Approved in the Fall 2019, this fee is to start in Winter 2024 and to be charged until Winter 2029 (inclusive). The fund supports the expansion of Open Educational Resources, SSMU Tutoring, and SSMU MiniCourses, as well as the creation of fairly compensated notetaker positions and examination prep courses at a more affordable price than for-profit companies.
Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
SSMU Student Nutrition Access (SSNA)*
The Student Nutrition Accessibility Club (SNAC) fee supports SNAC in its mission to provide access to sustainable nutrition at 不良研究所. It will be used to implement a holistic initiative including, but not limited to, fresh produce distribution and educational workshops.
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
The fee was approved for implementation in Fall 2023 and will be up for renewal in Winter 2029. This fee is levied on all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus.
SSMU Student Rights Fund (SSSR)*
The Student Rights Fee supports SSMU in its mission to represent the student body and advocate for student rights. It supports SSMU student rights initiatives, including the SSMU Student Rights website, and is the basis for the Student Rights Fund.
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.

SSMU Student Space Fund Fee (SSSP)*
This fee ($1.00), charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, exists as a source of financial assistance to support physical improvements in student space on campus.
Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). SSMU Student Support Fee (SSST)*
The SSMU Student Support Fee will provide students with access to services that help to ease their academic experience. The three services currently offered in this package will provide access to Calm, ProWritingAid, and Udemy for a period of 1 year in order to test usage rates in hopes that the service will be maintained when the fee comes back to referendum. Student Support鈥檚 goal is to find out which services are desired by 不良研究所 students and work to create these partnerships over time. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period on Minerva.
This fee is established as of Winter 2024 and will be up for renewal in Winter 2029. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).听 the fee was approved held by referendum for a renewal and increase to $10.29 per semester per student payable by all SSMU members starting in fall 2023 and ending in winter 2024 (inclusive).
SSMU Virtual Health Care (SSDL)**
HI (Virtual Health Care), provided by Dialogue, is a telemedicine service that gives students unlimited bilingual access to nurses and physicians 24/7 via a mobile or web app from anywhere in Canada. Eligible students can opt out of the HI fee at during the appropriate Change-of-Coverage & Opt-Out Periods indicated online.

SSMU University Centre Fee (SSMS)
The purpose of this fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, is to create a fund to pay for the lease the Student's Society signed with 不良研究所 for occupying the University Centre. The University Centre has been occupied by the SSMU for over 50 years, and is a central part of student-run life at 不良研究所. The fee is non-opt-outable, and will be indexed at a rate of 5.6%. per year.
This fee was first approved and implemented in Fall 2014 and will be charged up to and including Winter 2026. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
SSMU UTILE Fee (SSUT)
The non-opt-outable SSMU UTILE fee of $6.53 supports the promotion of affordable student housing through the construction of housing units and promotion of housing information, in coordination with L鈥橴nit茅 de travail pour l'implantation de logement 茅tudiant (UTILE), a non-profit service provider that specializes in building design and fundraising for student housing.
Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU). This fee, established as of Fall 2020, will be up for renewal in Winter 2025. The fee is charged to all students at the undergraduate level on the downtown campus.

SOCI 631 Statistics Lab Fee (SOCI)
This fee is associated with the course SOCI 631 and is used to support the cost of the statistical technician required to be in attendance in the 不良研究所 Laboratory of the Quebec Interuniversity Center for Social Statistics (QICSS). This lab houses Statistics Canada鈥檚 microdetailed data sets, which are only made available in secure environments such as the one provided by QICSS. Statistics Canada requires that a statistical assistant (who becomes an employee of Statistics Canada) be present on the premises when work is conducted in the laboratory.
Software Engineering Co-op Fee (COSE)
This administrative fee is paid by all undergraduate students in the Software Engineering Co-op Program to cover expenses related to the program. For example, the co-op program administrative staff helps students find co-op jobs, provides them with individualized career counselling, networks with industrial contacts to develop job opportunities for the students and administers the course content for the required industrial training courses. The fee is not a job placement fee and is non-refundable.

Student Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU)
This fee, charged to all undergraduate downtown campus students, is the main operating fee of the SSMU. It includes all the funding for clubs, services, membership in the lobbying groups of la FEUQ and the SSMU offices. Also included are fees associated with some of SSMU鈥檚 larger services: the Sexual Assault Centre (0.75$), the safety network (0.50$) and 不良研究所 Nightline (0.25$). The society base fee is pegged to inflation, determined in April of each year. The Society Base Fee is assessed by semester according to the faculty in which you are registered as follows:
Regular (鈥淎鈥) Faculties are: Arts, Education, Engineering (B. Eng & B.Sc. Arch), Music, Management, Nursing, PT & OT, and Science;
Professional (鈥淏鈥) Faculties are: Law, Religious Studies, Dentistry, and Medicine;

Summer Studies in Greece (SSG1)
There is a fee of $3,399.00 for the Summer Studies in Greece activity associated with registration in course HIST 462. The fee includes accommodation based on double room occupancy, meals, onsite visits, course packs and travel within Greece when associated with onsite visits. Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements and travel insurance costs.
SUS Ambassador Fund (SCAF)*
This fee is charged to all Science undergraduate students. Students in the BA&Sc degree also pay this fee on a pro-rated basis. The Science Undergraduate Society Ambassador Fund is to be used as a source of financial assistance to students in the Faculty of Science and Arts and Science for the purpose of attending or hosting conferences/competitions of an academic nature. The fund is meant to be a form of support for students who will be representing 不良研究所 Science in such a way as to continue building its reputation for excellence on a national and international scale. Departments and committees within the SUS may draw on the Fund by submitting an application. The Associate Dean of Research, Undergraduate Research Officer, and the SUS Vice President of Finance will decide selection criteria and review all applications.
This fee, first implemented in Fall 2012, requires renewal every two years. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Science Undergraduate Society (SUS).
SUS Lab Improvement Fund (SUGE)
This fee is charged to all Science undergraduate students. Students in the BA&Sc degree also pay this fee on a pro-rated basis.
This fee was initially created in the Fall 1988 as a voluntary increase in fees paid by Science students to improve and develop lab facilities in the faculty of Science. This fund is jointly administered by the students and the faculty. Students may not opt-out. The fee is renewable in Winter 2019.
Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Science Undergraduate Society (SUS).
SUS Research Awards Fund (SCRA)
This fee is charged to all Science undergraduate students. Students in the BA&Sc degree also pay this fee on a pro-rated basis.
This non-optoutable fee will fund multiple Pan Science Undergraduate Research Awards (SURAs) every summer for eligible students in a science undergraduate program, including students in a B.A.Sc., as an opportunity to gain research experience in an academic setting, while receiving financial support. As such the Fund will be managed and administered by the SUS in conjunction with the Faculty of Science. For every $1.00 put forward by Science and Arts and Science students, the Faculty of Science will match the contribution up to maximum of $5000.听

SUS Work Study Fund (SCIC)
This fee is charged to all Science undergraduate students. Students in the BA&Sc degree also pay this fee on a pro-rated basis.
The SUS Work Study Fund is directed towards the Work Study program, and is used to fund on campus jobs for full time undergraduate science students in need. The jobs that are funded and created by the SCIC contribution to the Work Study program allow science students to gain valuable experience in a job in a scientific environment. These jobs are housed in departments such as Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Planetary Sciences, Psychology, Microbiology and at the Redpath Museum. The positions held by students in this program include technicians, lab assistants, research assistants, science education assistant, and animal caretaker. The fund was initially created in the Fall of 1994 and typically comes up for renewal every two years. Students may not opt-out.

Sustainable Projects Fund (SUST)
The purpose of this fee, charged to all undergraduate and graduate students, is to create a fund to support new environmentally sustainable projects that will benefit the 不良研究所 community. The funds from this fee will be available to all members of the 不良研究所 community upon approval of a project proposal, and will be managed by a parity committee made up of students and administrators. This fee in non-optoutable and all student contributions to the fund are matched by 不良研究所.
This fee was last approved by referendum held in Fall 2022, and will continue to be levied from Fall 2023 up to and including Winter 2028 at $0.55 per credit per student per semester (up to 15 credits) payable by MCSS members. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student referendum conducted by the Students Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU), the Post-Graduate Students鈥 Society (PGSS) and the Macdonald Campus Students鈥 Society (MCSS).听 The fee was last approved by referendum held in winter 2023 at rate $8.25 per full-time/additional session/non-thesis extension/thesis evaluation term student (12+ credits) and $4.13 per part-time or half-time student (1-11.5 credits), payable by all PGSS members (including students at the Macdonald Campus and postdoctoral students), starting fall 2023 and ending in winter 2028 inclusive.
SWRK 345 Field Trip Fee (DSW1)
This course carries an additional charge to cover the cost of transportation to attend a lecture at the Kahnawake Longhouse. The fee is refundable only during the withdrawal with full refund period.
Thomson House Membership (PGML)
Thomson House Membership is a fee originating in 1993 and charged to all Law and Medicine students. The purpose was to give full access to the activities and services at Thomson House.
This fee can only be increased through student referendums by both the Medical Students鈥 Society (MSS) and the Law Students鈥 Association (LSA). The fee will next be renewable in Spring 2014.

TVM: Student Television - SSMU (SSTV)*
TVM Student Television is the only student-run film and television production outlet at 不良研究所. TVM Student Television is dedicated to providing resources and training for the 不良研究所 community to gain valuable hands-on experience in media/audio-visual production in order to publicize and promote the interests of the 不良研究所 community. The TVM Student Television fee contributes to support the substantial costs associated with acquiring and maintaining adequate equipment for video content production and training. Students may opt-out of this fee on a term-by-term basis during a limited opt-out period via Minerva.
The fee was first approved for implementation in Winter 2010 following a student fee referendum held by the Students' Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU) and was renewed in 2021听for a further four听years. Any changes to the fee can only be made following a student fee referendum held by the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU).
World University Services of Canada (WUSC)
The World University Services of Canada fee is dedicated to sponsoring听refugee students听to study at 不良研究所 for a year under a program organized by the local committee of the World University Service of Canada. The fund is administered under an agreement between the 不良研究所 local committee of WUSC, the Students鈥 Society, and the University. The fees go towards a scholarship fund called the 不良研究所 Students鈥 Pilkington Scholarship Fund.
This fee, charged to all undergraduate and graduate downtown campus students, can only be changed following student referendums held by both the Students鈥 Society of 不良研究所 (SSMU) and the Post-Graduate Students鈥 Society (PGSS) and must be brought back to a student referendum in Winter 2026.
