Call for submissions - Special Issue on Wisdom

Exploring Wisdom in Healthcare

Wisdom is an essential, yet elusive, aspect of healthcare. Knowledge and skills – pillars of our professional world – can’t guarantee its presence. Experience and careful thinking are essential components, but wisdom is more than a cognitive process. It is also born from our state of being – a delicate balance of engagement in the present moment with mindfulness of the past and future. Finding and sustaining this balanced perspective can be a daily challenge, especially in systems that sometimes seem designed to disrupt it. And, yet, despite these obstacles, many of us find meaningful ways to cultivate wisdom within ourselves and others.

We want to hear your perspective on Wisdom in Healthcare

This special issue of the journal focuses on first-person narratives that explore the theme of wisdom in healthcare. We invite submissions that explore how wisdom may have influenced any aspect of your work in healthcare. For instance, how has wisdom influenced decision making in charting the trajectory of your professional career, or influenced your experiences with patient care, ethical conflicts, and/or inter-personal challenges. We welcome submissions from clinicians and researchers across professional settings and career stage. Please submit a brief paper (up to 3000 words) on the theme of wisdom in healthcare.
