The AMR Centre is excited to announce our Student Engagement team. This team will be spreading the word about antimicrobial resistance and related 不良研究所 initiatives and they want you to be involved! Do you have content you would like to contribute to the AMR Centre's outreach initiatives? 2024 World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW)
One upcoming initiative is the World AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance) Awareness Week, November 18-24, 2024. This is an annual global campaign to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and encourage best practices among the public, One Health stakeholders and policymakers, who all play a critical role in reducing the emergence and spread of AMR. This year's theme is 'Educate. Advocate. Act now.'听 |

Go Blue for AMR Awareness听Challenge throughout the week!
Students, researchers, clinicians, professors and the public unite! Wear something blue (GoBlue) in honor of raising AMR awareness and post a photo of your blue attire on Instagram, (with friends, your class or lab partners) Tag us at @mcgill_amr_centre with the #GoBlueWith不良研究所 and #GoBlueForAMR.听
Adjust your social media profiles to a blue background, and share why you are 'Going Blue' with friends, colleagues and on social media!

Wednesday November 20th: Student Roundtable "AMR Insights"听Join us on zoom for an insightful discussion about all things AMR!听We want to hear from you about your experiences, concerns, and questions about antimicrobial resistance.
Thursday November 21st:听Join us as this year's Seminar + Social Series begins with a seminar by Dr Mark Miller MD at the RI-MUHC including a panel discussion and networking reception afterwards. Find out more and register on听our event's page.

Dr. Jasmin Chahal
Outreach Team Mentor
Jasmin is an Assistant Professor in the department of Microbiology & Immunology. She is the instructor for the MIMM 212: Laboratory in Microbiology course, which is part of the Tiny Earth Initiative. The goal of this course is to isolate antibiotic producing bacteria from soil samples. Dr. Chahal is organizing the outreach activities for AMR Awareness, which includes the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week and consulting on the exciting new MARCC program.

Bridget O鈥橞rien
Outreach Team Co-Leader听
Bridget is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Food Science & Agricultural Chemistry supervised by Dr. Jennifer Ronholm. Her project focuses on mastitis infections in dairy cattle caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae, with the goal of identifying antibiotic alternatives for use in dairy farming. Having been part of the Outreach Team for two years, Bridget is excited to have the opportunity to co-lead it this upcoming year!

Eszter Farkas
Outreach Team Co-Leader
Eszter is a fourth year PhD student in the department of Microbiology and Immunology supervised by Dao Nguyen. Her research is focused on the discovery of novel antibiotics from Arctic bacteria. Her interest in AMR began during her undergraduate Honour鈥檚 project which focused on antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. She is passionate about raising awareness on AMR among the scientific community and the public.

Arianna Giurleo
VP Social
Arianna is a 2nd year masters student the department of pharmacology and therapeutics under the supervision of Dr. Bastien Castagner. Her project is focused on understanding the benefits of polyphenols on human health by exploring their effect on the gut microbiota and elucidating the key bacterial players in their metabolism. Arianna is interested in spreading awareness and informing the public about key scientific issues with an emphasis on AMR in hopes to bring more attention to this growing problem.

Fathima Afsal
VP External Affairs
Fathima is a PhD student in the Department of Civil Engineering under the supervision of Prof.Dominic Frigon and co-supervision of Stan Kubow (School of Human Nutrition). As an environmental engineer, her research at the intersection of engineering and nutrition utilises an in vitro human gut reactor to study how the antimicrobial resistant microbes invade the human gut, and the role of nutrition here to mitigate the risks. Her passion towards science communication and outreach activities brought her to be associated with the 不良研究所 AMR Centre, and she is excited to continue her third year with AMR Centre executive team.
