The Government of Canada ,聽including聽$412,700 to 不良研究所 to demonstrate and evaluate best management practices to reduce phosphorus runoff from urban and agricultural sources in the Lake Simcoe watershed and to engage the community through outreach and events.聽

The Department of Bioresource Engineering聽(BREE) enjoyed a visit last month from David Saint-Jacques, astronaut and Deputy Director, Lunar Exploration at the Canadian Space Agency, and BREE graduate Chris Patterson. They met with BREE undergrad and grad students who presented their projects, highlighting links between their research and bioregenerative life support system goals for extended space missions on the lunar surface and beyond in the near future.

In 1974, Chandra Madramootoo arrived at Macdonald Campus to pursue his BSc in Agricultural Engineering. He never left.

鈥淚 loved the program. I loved the professors. I loved my courses,鈥� said Madramootoo. 鈥淚t was giving me exactly what I wanted in life. I was fulfilling a dream.鈥�

After also earning his MSc (1981) and his PhD (1985) at Mac, he accepted an 11^th聽hour offer from 不良研究所 for an assistant professorship, declining opportunities at other universities.

Congratulations to 不良研究所 Department of Bioresource Engineering Master's student Sadie MacDonald, who has been named the 2024聽Detachable Container Association Scholar by the Environmental Research and Education Foundation! MacDonald is researching the carbon footprint and other environmental impacts of Montreal鈥檚 organic waste management systems. This research can help inform policy decisions with regards to environmental sustainability.

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2024 Interdisciplinary Research Development (IRD) Award, announced earlier this month! As part of the聽Computational & Data Systems Initiative, these awards are presented by the聽不良研究所 Collaborative for AI & Society聽and encourage interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding and positively influencing the impact of AI on society through projects targeting a range of issues.
