The Department of Bioengineering would like to congratulate Professor Allen Ehrlicher for his recent CIHR Project Grant. Professor Ehrlicher's project aims to explore how mechanical forces, such as compression of the nucleus, affect cellular aging and stem cell differentiation, particularly in Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS). In HGPS, accelerated aging and organ defects occur, including impaired fat tissue differentiation. Researchers found that nucleus compression activates Yes Associated Protein (YAP), which slows aging and promotes bone formation from stem cells.
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine is expected to meet with U.S. Vice-President J.D. Vance at the Munich Security Conference, which is underway. This comes after an announcement earlier this week that U.S. President Donald Trump had spoken with Vladimir Putin.听

Tim Hortons is deeply embedded in Canadian culture, but is it still truly Canadian? However, he argues that nationality isn鈥檛 just about where a company is headquartered鈥攊t鈥檚 about where decisions are made.

Dr. Roberta Palmour has been given the Lifetime Academic Achievement Award by the Department of Human Genetics. The award recognizes Prof. Palmour鈥檚 seminal contributions to genetic counselling education at 不良研究所, including the establishment of the MSc in Genetic Counselling program. Developing RNA-based vaccines has become a key focus in the fight against Mpox, which has spread to 116 countries, with over 100,000 confirmed cases worldwide, including more than 1,900 in Canada. The disease was once endemic to parts of Central and West Africa.
RNA-based vaccines offer the potential for better protection, adaptability to new strains, and faster production compared to existing vaccines.
