CRN Graduate Students Association (GSA)

Softball

CRN graduate students and postdocs annually field a team in ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù's Thompson House Softball league. And every year they challenge the CRN faculty in an annual showdown!

In addition, we organize several other more scholarly pursuits (see below).

Friday Journal Club

In this Journal Club we discuss papers published within the year from high-impact journals in any-field of neurobiology, reflecting the diverse interests and research of the members and trainees of the CRN and of the ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù Vision Research, as part of the BRaIN program. We meet on Fridays at 5:00 PM in Room L7-309 of the Montreal General Hospital.

The paper for each week is sent out 2-3 days before the actual Journal Club. Presenters are asked to prepare a small PowerPoint Presentation which should include a brief introduction to field of study and the relevance of the work, followed by the figures and graphs from the paper. Participants are asked to read the paper beforehand so that they can participate in insightful discussion. The Journal Club is a respectful and learning environment. The idea is not to expect to the presenter to know every figure, technique, and scientific approach forward and backward, but to educate others on topics in different areas of neurobiology they may not have encountered otherwise. In return, the presenters gain the benefit of receiving input and different viewpoints from individuals with a broad range of scientific backgrounds.

This Journal Club is generously supported by the Graduate Students’ Association for Neuroscience (GSAN).

Anyone is invited to participate in the Journal Club and is encouraged to do so. To inquire about presenting at the Journal Club or to be added to our emailing list, please feel free to contact the organizers hunter.shaw [at] mail.mcgill.ca (subject: BRaIN%20Journal%20Club) (Hunter Shaw)Ìý´Ç°ù cristian.zaelzer [at] gmail.com (subject: BRaIN%20Journal%20Club) (Cristian Zaelzer).
