L’objectif principal de ce programme est de développer les compétences professionnelles nécessaires pour exploiter et gérer une entreprise agricole moderne. Cela est réalisé grâce au développement (ou l’acquisition) de compétences sur une période de trois ans au cours de laquelle les étudiants suivent une séquence de cours en sciences du sol, des plantes et des animaux, en ingénierie et en gestion. Nous visons également à développer les compétences entrepreneuriales des étudiants, leur croissance (ou épanouissement) personnelle et leur capacité à s’adapter à un monde en évolution.
L’été suivant la première année comprend un stage de 10 semaines dans une entreprise agricole autre que la ferme familiale ou dans une entreprise agricole, où les étudiants apprennent (ou acquièrent) de nombreuses compétences liées à l’agriculture commerciale moderne. Les étudiants se préparent à leur stage pendant les deux semestres académiques de la première année grâce à deux cours de stage et deux stages d’une semaine.
Pendant le deuxième été, les étudiants sont inscrits au cours de gestion d’entreprise 1 (Enterprise Management 1) . Pendant cette période, les étudiants seront responsables de la collecte de données qui seront utilisées dans les deux cours de gestion d’entreprise suivants et le cours de plan de gestion des nutriments lorsqu’ils retourneront au campus pour le semestre d’automne. Ces stages permettront aux étudiants de relier leur travail académique à la réalité de l’agriculture et du secteur agroalimentaire.
Les cours de formation générale en anglais, français, sciences humaines, éducation physique, une ou deux matières complémentaires (selon l’éligibilité de l’étudiant, veuillez voir ci-dessous), ainsi qu’un examen de sortie linguistique ministériel (épreuve uniforme de français) permettront à l’étudiant de recevoir un Diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC) du Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur.

Farm Management Technology V.4: The capstone course for FMT students is the Farm Project. A comprehensive 5 year business plan for either their home farms or for a startup operation will be produced by students. They do a detailed technical and financial analysis of their current situation; develop managerial and capital projects to improve the operation, and describe the financial impacts that their plans will have on the farm for the coming five years. Farm Management Technology V.4: The focus of Enterprise Management 2 will be at the strategic level. Students will build on existing knowledge to examine the steps necessary to prepare a management and business plan for their agricultural enterprise. They will be introduced to the development process of a farming business. The links between technical, financial, and economical aspect will be made. Students will be exposed to external factors of a farming business through the use of a three-day field trip and guest speakers from the agricultural establishment.

Farm Management Technology V.4: Students will be introduced to the basic elements of precision farming, including Global Positioning Systems and yield monitors, soil sampling strategies, remotely sensed data, Geographic Information Systems and variable rate technologies. Using real case studies and common software, students will learn to develop and analyze maps of yields and soil properties, diagnose the causes of yield variability, develop appropriate intervention strategies, and assess the potential cost implications for their farms.

Farm Management Technology V.4: Students will learn how to maintain hand tools and agricultural machinery. They will learn to develop a regular maintenance program, design and equip a maintenance workshop, as well as plan for machinery storage. They will learn basic repair and maintenance skills such as: electric and gas welding, cold and hot metal working, and performing cleaning and lubrification of machine components. The students will also learn about properties of materials which are used in agricultural applications.

Farm Management Technology: This course is designed to apply the skills and knowledge acquired in the two earlier humanities courses to environmental organizational issues. The focus is on the development of a series of viewpoints, and then the re-formulation of those viewpoints to take into account the world views and knowledge base of the audience. Thus the student becomes an agent of change who can skilfully design interventions to effect change in knowledge, attitude and behaviour. This course also explores a number of the current environmental and organizational issues, and to apply basic knowledge to the understanding of those issues, and to encourage students to participate in seeking solutions to these problems.

It also includes define the communication mechanisms between the owners, and with the employees as well as farm transfer from a financial, human and organizational standpoint.
