Friday, May 31, 2019 10:00to11:30
Raymond Building R2-046, 21111 Lakeshore Road, St Anne de Bellevue, QC, H9X 3V9, CA

Special seminar by Dr. Fereshteh Mafakheri, PhD, EIT, Concordia University

There is massive amount of real-time data collected on farms through different means about weather and soil conditions, water use, equipment, seeds, fertilizer usage, etc. Big data analytics could generate prescriptions for plantation and predictive models for yield estimation to help farmers move beyond productivity targets and towards achieving further cost efficiency, accuracy, and environmental safety in crop production. In this talk, an overview of big data analytics is presented followed by examples of using descriptive, predictive, prescriptive analytics in various farming practices, their benefits and challenges. This will be further supported by evidence from the presenter鈥檚 current and proposed research activities.
