Gatineau is a town of over 275,000 people, located in western Quebec near Hull, across the river from Ottawa.听The H么pital de Gatineau,听H么pital de Hull and the Family Medicine Unit (GMF-U) are part of the Centre int茅gr茅 de sant茅 et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l鈥橭utaouais.


Capacity

  • 1 clerk per period (Family Medicine)
  • 1 or 2 trainees per period (Anesthesiology)
  • 1 trainee per period (General Surgery, OBGYN, Pediatrics)
  • 2 trainees per period, R5 possibility of completing 2-week rotations (Internal Medicine)
  • 2 trainees per period (Psychiatry)

Length of Rotation

  • 2 weeks minimum (clerks),听1 month minimum (residents) (Anesthesiology)
  • 1 to 2 months (Family Medicine)
  • 1 to 3 months (General Surgery, OBGYN)

Type of Lodging


Lodging is provided by the establishment.

Trainees are lodged in a "Shared Apartment". Trainees have a private room and share common gender neutral areas (bathroom, kitchen, living room).

Lodging can be available as of the evening before the rotation.

Trainees are expected at the Hospital at 8:30am (unless otherwise specified) on the first day of their rotation.

It is important that everyone does their share to keep all common areas clean and safe at any time.

Transportation

Alexandra Bridge seen from Ottawa.


A car is highly recommended, as trainees are often scheduled at various clinical sites during their rotation. Trainees can also travel to the site听by bus or train.

Those without cars can commute using public transport () while in Gatineau.听听

Trainees make their own travel arrangements.

NOTE: For all students making their own arrangements. All students will be required to attend a mandatory Progress Test at the end of each block.

PLEASE do not make any travel arrangements before confirming the exact date of your test.


Traveling by bus

The offers daily departures from Montreal.


Traveling by car

It is approximately a 2-hour drive to reach Gatineau. Please see the attached for further details.


Traveling by train

Via Rail offers daily departure from Montreal to Ottawa. From Ottawa to Gatineau, the trainees must take a taxi since there is no bus service available. Please see the website of for further details.
