The Faculty of Education has several awards available for outstanding achievements in student teaching for Bachelor of Education students.听
- Teaching awards are granted on the basis of nominations by both 不良研究所 Field Supervisors and Cooperating Teachers (students cannot nominate themselves and are to refrain from actively soliciting a nomination)听
- When/if a Student Teacher is听nominated, their Supervisor or Cooperating Teacher will ask them to complete any necessary documents to process their candidacy
- Students doing a Field Experience/Internship off-cycle (e.g. FE4 in Fall, IN1 in Fall, IN2 in Winter) may not be eligible for student teaching awards

Phyllis Shapiro Award (FE3 and IN2)
The Phyllis Shapiro Award was established by family, 不良研究所 colleagues, friends and the University to honour the memory of an exceptional teacher and lecturer, Dr. Phyllis Shapiro, Dip.Ed.'56. Granted by the Faculty of Education's Committee on Student Affairs in the name of Phyllis Shapiro, to recognize excellence in teaching.听Value: Varies.
*Students in all teacher education programs are eligible for this award. If the Award is divided between K/Elem and Secondary, students in Music, TESL and Phys Ed are eligible for consideration based on the level they complete for 3rd Field Experience (i.e. K/Elem or Secondary)
Jean M. Gwynne Award (FE4)
Established by the family in memory of Jean M. Gwynne, B.A. 1927. Two awards, one for K/Elementary Education and one for Secondary Education*, granted by a selection committee established by the Faculty of Education to students who have shown outstanding potential as teachers on the basis of the student teaching practicum. Value: $500.

Miriam (Khaner) Marcus Award (FE4)
Established in 2000 through a generous gift from Mrs. Zelda (Khaner) Myers in honour of her sister, Miriam (Khaner) Marcus, B.A. 1932, M.A. 1935. Awarded to an exceptional teacher training student* with high academic standing in the graduating class. Value: Varies.

Teaching &听Leadership Award (for FE4 and Phys Ed only)
Established by a donor听for a student graduating from the B.Ed.听Physical Education degree program in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Health Education who has been consistently rated as outstanding in the student teaching practicum and who has promoted physical activity over and above the degree requirements by coaching a sport or teaching dance/fitness, at the University, in a school, or in the community.听Value: Varies.

Application Requirements
Eligibility
In order to be a viable candidate, nominees must have:
- Received consistently excellent evaluations from both their Co-operating Teacher(s)/Administrator and Field Supervisor in the preparation, implementation and management of classroom activities
- Demonstrated exceptional achievements above and beyond regular classroom responsibilities (e.g. initiating innovative teaching methods/projects or organizing extracurricular/after-class activities)
- Developed rapport with students and shown strong involvement in the life of the school
- Teaching & Leadership Award only: Exceeded degree requirements by promoting physical activity at host school, the University, or in the community
Other exceptional achievements may be taken into consideration at the discretion of the Evaluation Committee.

Evaluation
Nominations will be reviewed and ranked by the Evaluation Committee, consisting of Faculty members and Field Supervisors. In the case of a tie, the Student Teacher鈥檚 GPA will aid in the determination of a winner.

- Nomination Letter from Field Supervisor describing the student鈥檚 eligibility (based on above criteria) and achievements (approx. 500 words)
- Personal Statement from Student Teacher outlining eligibility (based on the above criteria) and achievements (approx. 500 words)

How to Nominate
Only Supervisors may officially submit the听Student Teaching Award nomination.
Supervisors may use this webform to submit a Student Teaching Award nomination.
The Student Teaching Award nomination form will require that 1 file (PDF ONLY) be uploaded per supporting document required (i.e. you will need to upload 3 separate documents when completing the award nomination webform).
The nomination deadline for all Student Teaching awards is 1 week听after the end of the placement.
NOTE ON MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS: Nominations for multiple Awards for a student in the same term/for the same placement must be done as SEPARATE submissions with separate unique letters written for each respective Award.
- Exception: Nominations for the Jean M. Gwynne and Miriam (Khaner) Marcus Awards are done in 1 joint submission.
