Inter-University Transfer (IUT)

Also referred to as AEHE-IUT or IUT/AHEH

Inter-University Transfer Agreement (IUT) or Autorisation d'茅tudes hors 茅tablissement (AEHE)听allows 不良研究所 students the flexibility to study at another Quebec university during the Fall, Winter and/or Summer term.

If you are interested in studying at another university outside Quebec, this can be done through an Exchange Program (Fall/Winter only) or Independent Study Away (Fall, Winter and/or Summer).

IUT Options

  1. Register听for one or two courses per term (Fall/Winter/Summer)听at the host university in addition to your 不良研究所 courses in the same term.
  2. Register听for a full course load at the host university without taking any 不良研究所 courses in the same term (Fall/Winter/Summer).

Application Dates

Your IUT application must be submitted prior to the start of the term to allow enough time to meet the host university's registration deadlines. It is your responsibility to be aware of host university deadlines and to plan sufficient time for processing your application. Dates below are recommendations and do not guarantee approval by host university's deadline.

TERM

Recommended deadline (to avoid missing your host university's registration deadlines)

Fall

September 1 (or next business day)

Winter

January 1 (or next business day)

Summer

You are encouraged to apply as soon as the host university's summer schedule is published.

Eligibility criteria and other considerations

To be considered for IUT, at the time of your application, you must:

  • Be currently registered in a B.Sc. or B.A. & Sc. degree at 不良研究所 (with your program(s) of study accurately reflected on your Minerva transcript).
  • Have a minimum CGPA of 2.00.
  • NOTE: Exchange, Special, Visiting or Foundation year (U0) students are not eligible to apply.

Graduating students:

  • To be eligible for IUT, you cannot have already satisfied your graduation requirements before the term of your AEHE-IUT.
  • Students who are taking one or more courses at another university during their final term WILL NOT be eligible to graduate at the end of that term. Your graduation term will be delayed. Consult with the relevant advisor for more information.
  • Students interested in applying to transfer to another faculty or into Science should be advised that approval for AEHE-IUT (or other study away activities) will not automatically transfer to your new degree.
  • Students interested in transferring into Science should consult with the relevant advisor in Science to discuss how transferring into Science may impact their IUT. B.Sc transfer applicants should contact mary.gauthier [at] mcgill.ca (Mary Gauthier) and B.A. & Sc. transfer applicants should contact marina.saunders [at] mcgill.ca (Marina Saunders).
  • If you have already applied for or been approved for IUT and are subsequently applying to transfer, you must mention it in the Student Comments section of your request for Inter-Faculty Transfer.
  • Students interested in transferring out of the Faculty of Science should consult with the other Faculty鈥檚 advising office/study away coordinators as to potential impacts of a transfer.

Application Process

Step 1: Degree planning

Review the Plan & Prepare page (and meet with advisors if you have questions)! Participating in IUT can have a significant impact on your academic trajectory and it is critical to factor in policies and practical considerations when planning your experience. Details like your remaining graduation requirements, course availability and credit transferability are crucial to ensuring a smooth functioning experience that allows you to progress towards graduation (and avoid unnecessary delays).

It is also critical that you be aware of residency requirements for your degree (B.Sc. or B.A. & Sc.) when planning your ISA:

  • You must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 60 credits at 不良研究所.
  • A minimum of two-thirds of all program requirements (Multi-track, Honours, Faculty program) must be satisfactorily completed at 不良研究所.

Make sure your Minerva record is up-to-date:

  • Are your programs accurately recorded in your most recent term?
  • Do you have any pending grades (L, K, Spanned course)? If you do, you are asked to send an email the relevant advisor (mary.gauthier [at] mcgill.ca (Mary Gauthier) for B.Sc. or marina.saunders [at] mcgill.ca (Marina Saunders) for B.A. & Sc.) including confirmation of the grades for all course components to date, as well as how much each component is worth for the course. You may provide a screen shot from MyCourses showing this information.

Step 2: Research host institutions and course offerings

You can consult the list of IUT approved institutions on the .

Step 3: Course equivalency requests

Before you can submit the IUT application, you must have a valid 不良研究所 equivalency for the course(s) you plan to take at the host university as you will need to input this information in the application.

For full details on how to have your courses evaluated using 不良研究所's Course Equivalency System, consult Transferring Credit.

Step 4: Submit your IUT online application

Complete the (consult the for guidance.)

  • If the host course has a direct equivalency in the database, enter it in the 鈥淭ransfer Equivalent Activity鈥 field of your AEHE/IUT application.
  • If the host course has a 鈥渓evel鈥 equivalency in the database (e.g. BIOL 3XX or PSYC 2XX), you must leave the 鈥淭ransfer Equivalent Activity鈥 field blank and enter the equivalency in the 鈥淪tudent comments鈥 field of your IUT application.
  • You will not be able to make changes to your application once it is submitted. If enter incorrect/inaccurate information, the application will be refused and you will need to submit a new one.
  • Maximum of combined 不良研究所 and IUT course credits:
    • 12 for Summer term
    • 15 for Fall and/or Winter term

Step 5: Register for courses at the host institution

Once 不良研究所 has approved your application, the host institution will inform you of their decision by email.

If your application is approved by the host institution, you will receive instructions on how to register for courses at their institution.

Need to cancel your IUT?

If you wish to drop or withdraw from a course after registering at the host institution, you must follow the drop/withdrawal procedures of the host university AND submit this change on the IUT application.听

WARNING: Failure to cancel your application may result in receiving a failing grade for the course at the end of the term and/or being charged fees.

NOTE: Cancellations must be made by government-imposed deadlines. You may be charged an administrative fee or encounter limited access to your Minerva record if your cancellation request is received after government reporting deadlines have passed.

During and after your AEHE-IUT

During your IUT

While you are attending the host university:

1. Pay your tuition at 不良研究所

The tuition fees for the course(s) at the host institution will be charged to your 不良研究所 account.

2. Keep all course materials:

You may need to provide any or all of the following: course syllabus, exam questions, graded work, methods of evaluation, reading lists, communications with your instructor, etc. It is critical that you retain documentation that includes the date and year of the course.

The Faculty regularly conducts audits of courses completed at other institutions. If your course(s) are audited and you have not retained the required documents (with date and year), the Faculty reserves the right to refuse or revoke credits and/or exemptions.

3. Regularly check your 不良研究所 email:

不良研究所 will email all correspondence including important notices and information about registration, fees, graduation, etc., to your 不良研究所 email account.

4. (If applicable) be aware of upcoming 不良研究所 registration deadlines:

If you expect to return to 不良研究所 for the upcoming term, be sure to register for your 不良研究所 courses by the appropriate deadlines to avoid any late registration fees.

Once you have completed your IUT

For any course(s) you complete at the host institution, the grade(s) will be automatically sent to 不良研究所.

If you login to your IUT application and read "Grade transmitted to Home University," this is your confirmation that 不良研究所 has received the grade(s). Should you have any questions about the submission of your grade, please contact the host institution.

不良研究所's Enrolment Services, in coordination with SOUSA, will process the transfer credits to your 不良研究所 transcript.
